I'm impressed at the overwhelming support and good times people had. Unfortunately I felt let down by a few things:
2 hour queue. I was expecting it so no surprises, but in terms of setting the tone for the night... Then another big queue for the cloakroom.
No members list, as above - not the end of the world, if it really meant that much I wouldn't have gone in, but by the time I got inside the club the start wasn't great.
Main complaint was the vibe inside. I'm glad so many people had a great time, it makes me feel like I'm just a moany old git. Personally it was too rammed for my liking - I don't come to read a paper, but I don't come to spend my night fending off drugged up kids from spilling my/their drink all over me. It wasn't just the centre of the dancefloor - anytime I tried to get to the bar, toilets, smoking area etc, it was a real struggle.
Attitude in the dance - again i'm pleased so many people say they never saw anything. I caught Pokes shouting at the guy trying to snatch chains in the main room. Went into the second room and there was a minor scuffle, which was followed by the DJ (not sure who) playing Next Hype. Now I don't mind the song, but if there's just been a row on the dancefloor it seems mad to me to then play a hype tune like that...
Then it kicked off properly in the second room. Lights on, music off business. I was on the balcony and turned away in disgust, and found that the crowd was now 3 deep with people trying to watch the drama. I sat down, and I could just hear the crowd going 'ooh' and 'aah' like it was a bloody circus or smth. Someone made the comment that everyone was booing them - that wasn't my impression at all, people seemed entertained.
On top of that I was disappointed with some of the sets, but that is simply a personal preference. Would've liked more meditation, longer mixes, varied selection. Anyways Im glad everyone else seems to have had a great time. Perhaps I'm a rose tinted, backwards-looking nostalgic, but vibe seeemed a long way from earlier DMZs. Im just a bit sad that following the queue, the crowd, the drugs, the cost, the music and the fighting, I'm not sure I'll be back in a hurry. Then again, given how busy it was I won't be missed!!
