Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
Hmmm
Sample selection helps and if you get the layering right you'll end up with some well fat sounding individual hits. Side chaining as well (keep it subtle!) will help make the kick and snare punch through. Also transient designers are awesome in keeping the decay of hits under control. Noisia make dnb so chances are no or just a little bit (tiny amount) or a very short reverb on the drums.
Now what I've found is that multiple stages of gentle distortion and compression make things sound fatter than one stage of heavy distortion and compression. I don't do this myself but my housemate get some good results doing multiband distortion/compression on the drums.

Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
They sound the same as 99% of DnB producers drums.
They have good monitors and pick good samples that fit.

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Are you joking??? Jog onserox wrote:They sound the same as 99% of DnB producers drums.

Noisia have some of the most diverse and original sounding drum patterns and production to date. This along with the lifted music crew.

I was talking about the sound hits, not patterns.Depone wrote:Are you joking??? Jog onserox wrote:They sound the same as 99% of DnB producers drums.

Their drums dont sound that different. They use some nice distortion on everything but nothing new.
I dont like it tbh. I think it sounds overproduced and too digital but thats just me.

Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
I am glad you like their music but I dont like it one bit. Not a single thing. In fact, I had to turn some of those tracks off real fast becuase they are that horrible, to me.Depone wrote: Amazing noisia tunes that arent dnb-
Sounds way to digital and over produced.

they're similar to chase & status in my mind-- popular for 1 thihng, sure, but they've got a back catalog of breaks, house, liquid d&b... what's their liquid alias again? in fact i think 'they' have the tune on the flip of brainstitch. i'd check but my records are all the way across the room....

Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
I've actually only liked one Noisia tune to date: Cloudshine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xn3SVr5rNQ
Everything else to me just sounds like soulless, overproduced cheese to be honest, Spor more so...they're definitely talented, but none of it grabs me. Definitely can't hate on them though, they're doing really well doing what they love! Wish I was in their shoes

Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
My personal fav stuff from Noisia is their biz on a deeper tip
Cold Veins
The Distance
Omissions
Infusion (w/ Black Sun Empire)
Not really sure about the comments about "too digital"? It was written on a computer, what do you expect.
No such thing as over-produced IMO, people just think when something has a ridiculous big dancefloor mixdown that it is "overproduced", I don't get it, it was written for the dancefloor.
Anyway, enough rant from me, check out these deeper tunes they're awesome.

"Overproduced" doesn't mean "too dancefloor." It means that the production on the track overwhelms the elements of the tune to the point that it takes away from the tune and it's worse off for it. This can be in regards to many things, like melody, dynamics, groove, structure, and the listening experience itself. If you think there's absolutely no way this can ever happen, then I'm not really sure what to tell you though; it happens in a lot of different genres and is a pretty commonly-used term.
Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
I've always disagreed with that term. I've found it usually seems to be used in the case of tracks with a huge dancefloor mixdown (e.g. Noisia's dancefloor orientated stuff) by people who don't like that type of music.

Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
btw i thought it was pretty much accepted that most drum n bass is over produced.
it's just artists favouring technical ability over creative ability.

IMO with electronic music these things are one and the sameyellowhighlighter wrote:it's just artists favouring technical ability over creative ability.
Re: WTF, Noisia's drums are too much
Yeah I agree I mean a good "creative" idea that is produced horribly is just as bad as a shiny turd. You really have to have both to make a jem imo.boot wrote:IMO with electronic music these things are one and the sameyellowhighlighter wrote:it's just artists favouring technical ability over creative ability.
I ain't gonna lie I am a Noisia fan. Admittedly I am a bit behind on their music. Big blank spot for the last 4 years as I needed a long vacation from all things dnb. I have quite a few 12s with their name on it tho.
