Troof - I barely listen to dubstep these days other than when I mix or people send me tunes and it does wonders for my creativity!

I like to say clear of most electronical music unless I am really feeling listening to some if I am honest.

Word. Listening to music that is similar to what I am trying to make just holds me back. I end up trying to get the mix exactly the same and you cannot do it becuase it is not the same sound! this just fucks with my shit and at best wastes time and at worst pisses me right off that I just do something else instead.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

How can dub not be your main reference point if you're making sound-system orientated music. :?

May I suggest Ummagumma from Pink Floyd?

That LP always does wonders to my creativity

Absolutly love Dub, one of the roots of all electronic music

My favourite at the moment is Hightone, a band from France. Badass basslines, check em out:

Yes i love BOC very influenced by them in my music. Music has the right to children and i actually really love the latest album the campfire headphase. Listen to alot of the new radiohead electronic style, some nu skool breaks a bit of mentally heavy dnb like current value, lots and lotssss.

Deadly if you like boc have you heard this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP2_xPUcdgI really good :D

YESSSSS! That scientist album is my favourite album of all time.

Also look up 'Invaders' by Scientist, another one of my favourites (from the album Dub Landing).

Anything by Augustus Pablo, he's another sick producer.

I also love this track:

Made a couple good discoveries in this thread. First listened to King Tubby - Roots Dub; liked it a ton.

Liked that song a bunch. Really like BoC and James Holden (another artist that the uploader said Somfay sounds similar to, which my ears agree with), so it was enjoyable to see some more along those musical strands. They (BoC/James Holden) both know what they are doing with shaping timbres (and song+rhythmic+melodic structure), as does Somfey (as that song evidences). Going to have to find more of that.

Here's a song by James Holden that I'm awfully fond of:
James Holden - Corduroy

ive really, really tried for the last like 5 years, I am not a fan of dub..

Obviously theres a few tune I do like but 90% of what people go mad for, I honestly find boring.

Though - I DID enjoy a clash I went to, a lot!!

I guess its more about the vibes for me than the actual tunes.
