hudson mohawke- ice viper

the plucky transition synth descending at 0:33 and ascending at 0:46. it has kind of a 90s arcade game vibe to it.

Way too like... flexing sheet metal sound too be a straght square wave... what makes it sound so wet aside from some portamento? I love that song, sincerely my favorite EDM tune.... Just wanna know outta pure respect...
I'm pretty sure that track was done on an analog synth and that's what giving it it's warmth.

The high pass wobble that comes in @ 0:55. I've been trying a mixture of square's and tri's, adding distortion > high pass filter with lfo > eqing. I'm getting close but no cigar with that method.

Any help would be great, cheers.

I might have no clue at all but this sounds to be like a regular synth sound put through one of guitarizer VSTis, I don't know, Slayer2 or something like that. I think it definitely has a guitar-ish sound

Just like to start by saying,Thanks alot for this thread. Its helped me out loads and gave me shit loads of new ideas to keep me inspierd. It is an awesome idea........Anyway enough of the butt kissing.........The thing i wanna ask is how does datsik make that sound at 0.32sec,its like a spin back or something.is it like an envolope attached to the main pitch of the bass and the lfo rate to give it that slowing down and pitching down effect? sorry if this is an absolute N0ob question btw,im just interested to find out how that effect is made. Thanks in advance for any help.It will be much appreciated.

It's a very distorted low synth. Hi-pass is pretty high ans add several really short delays, 12ms, 14ms, 16ms, 18ms as insert effects. They should be pretty dry.

Not here to rip of their styles but I want to experiment with it, do my own thing

Can anyone help me make this...

The synth sound that comes in with the bass and rolls with it. It starts at 0:45-6 and it's high pitched, it sounds really simple but I can't nail it.

Something like frequency modulation and a rising highpass I guess

ok this bass sound was used in EVERY grime/bassline instrumental i can think of when i was growing up. in that case i can imagine it being really simple but can anyone give me guidelines on how to emulate this sound exactly, like is there glide on this or what?

thanks in advance.

I was wondering how many layers of waveforms and which ones you might use to get something similar to the lead synth in this track? (comes in at 0.55)

Thanks!

ewww, not a fan of this song...

however...

an easy way to get a similar sound would be to take a subtractive synth (w/ two oscillators, hopefully)

OSC1 = square
OSC2 = sawtooth, or anything (different results but all sound cool)
(EDIT: also, you want the phase of OSC2 to be maxed out, 127, if you will..)

lowpass filter, set to LP24 or something similar with a low low frequency cutoff, high resolution

put the mod envelope on osc2, invert it, and set a high attack, decay, and sustain, and put release about midway

filter env = A-0, D-high, S-0, R-low
amp env = A-0, D- high, S-mid, R-low

bump up the filter envelope velocity, and slightly bump up the EXT Modulation of the LFO and the FM

set the LFO rate to pretty slow (like 8/4)
assign it to FM
sine/sawtooth wave
amount a little less than half

EDIT: dont forget reverb, and some compression if you need it

hope this makes any sense at all... let me know if you need clarification on anything
