DnB/Jungle hi-hat patterns?

Post by crunkedxup » Mon Mar 22, 2010 5:50 am

i was wondering how the hi-hats in songs by people like Taxman and that are made? i always assumed it was just hi-hats on every step at that tempo but since ive recently tried to recreate ive realised theres a lot more to it. below is the most relevant non-DnB example i can find. comes in at about 0:21 i dont give a fuck if you like the song or not.

cheers!

How is it that I don't listen to this music and I've heard this song too many times?

try messing with the pitch of adjacent notes. I'm not sure of an easy way to do this unless you're working in audio, or have a few hihat tracks of different pitch.

Why do you need to be working with audio to change the pitch?

This hi hat pattern sounds like it is 2 hi hats going with velocity changes.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Try using at least 2 different high hat samples and move some of them so that they are just a few ticks before or after the beat.

What is the difference between jungle and dnb then?

jungle is usually reggae influenced with drum patterns in 8/4 (1994-1998 for true old skool jungle)

dnb is usually 4/4 and use a wider variety of breaks and bass

i have a documentary ill dig out for you you should also try n get hold of 'a london someting' describes how jungle came from acid house / old skool, staring most of the old dnb heads n shabba when he was 15 lol

and this ...

<< big up my wolves crew bbbbbrrrrrrap!!!!
