Re: Anyone into hardcore?
Kinda saddens me to see that as per usual, most people seem to only think of hardcore as the classic stuff that started with Discharge/Bad Brains and ended with Black Flag calling it quits + the jock/tough guy NY metal stuff and the music it spawned.
You cannot have a thread about hardcore and ignore all of Western Europe's contributions like Lärm (possibly every bit as influential as everyone's favorite 'classic' bands like Black Flag and Minor Threat and god knows what) and Fear Of God and Agathocles. Or Japanese bands like Gauze, G.I.S.M, Deathside, Confuse or Lip Cream. People would be surprised about how important even the Beastie Boys are in shaping modern day hardcore, being the first to have played blastbeats 30 years ago.
Or the greatest of all scenes, the powerviolence scene that was spawned by Infest in 1987 with their first demo. Followed by the likes of Man Is the Bastard, Capitalist Casualties, Crossed Out, Spazz, No Comment and so on.
Shit...... Y, Despise You, Lords Of Light, Hellnation, Insect Warfare, Jellyroll Rockheads, XBRAINIAX, Wadge, Discarga... all great bands that are ignored for whatever reason because in 1986 the mainstream rock press proclaimed hardcore as 'dead', disregarding all the innovations that have come since then. What followed were a bunch of bald, straight-edge tough guys who chugged down tuned guitars a lot which for some odd reason got attention while that stuff wasn't even really apart of the hardcore scene.
There's this.... huge untold story about hardcore that spans four continents for the past 25 years now that is oddly overlooked by 'hardcore fans', even if it isn't really hard to read about with the internet.

insect warfare, capitalist casualties and a couple of others/similar from that list have been over recently, and been fucking brilliant.

This, for the most part. Although Larm are shit. To be honest, most of hardcore today is a farce.Genevieve wrote:Kinda saddens me to see that as per usual, most people seem to only think of hardcore as the classic stuff that started with Discharge/Bad Brains and ended with Black Flag calling it quits + the jock/tough guy NY metal stuff and the music it spawned.

Re: Anyone into hardcore?
Regardless of how you or I or anyone feels about Lärm's music, to exclude them from a serious hardcore discussion would be crazy. They're certainly influential in the development of grindcore, thrashcore and powerviolence and are more important to hardcore than stuff like Agnostic Front or whatever.nicenice wrote:This, for the most part. Re: Anyone into hardcore?
I'm not denying that. Then again I see two types of hardcore. The more underground stuff, and the stuff like Agnostic Front, Madball and those type of bands. Have you heard of Orwell Front, apparently has members of bands like Larm & Shikari. Listening to them now, they're quite good.

Re: Anyone into hardcore?
I would have to disagree. Bishop were probably one of the worst bands I've ever seen.
I still think that Discharge are one of the best bands ever.

Re: Anyone into hardcore?
problem w/ hardcore (and punk) for me is that everything is so sub-divided and organised and has ausch a history that no matter what a band tries to do there are always preconceptions, cliches and norms that go with it. Almost like if every type of dubstep you could make would come with the same negative connotations that macho wobble step comes with in the minds of a lot of people.
Having said that there are still a few great hardcore bands and i guess even though i rarely listen to hardcore these days i still think of myself as a punk in my mind and attitudes.
If anyone is interested I play in a hardcore band called Like Grenades, we've got some tracks on www.myspace.com/likegrenades. We formed with mostly the intention of doing a Negative Approach influenced thing but it ended up sounding more like New Bomb Turks/Angry Samoans.

Re: Anyone into hardcore?
I'm more on the Technical Death Metal and Experimental Grind sort of thing. I can't stand hardcore, punk, crust or any of that nonsense.

Re: Anyone into hardcore?
its all about the mongoloids, though the new album was a bit shit. still though, they are hands down one of the hardest bands i've seen live. saw them in hull with trash talk and the fucked shit up... tables and chairs getting smashed in the pit and all kinds of shit.

Re: Anyone into hardcore?
The dashing and rocky dumbly-crumbly Hardcore is wide spread throughout the nations. The main thing which pull veils over our mind about Hardcore is its high potential energy to rock! I love Punjabi Hardcore. If i state my views about Hardcore as a common man then i would say it fills a gigantic "JOSH" (high energy with supportive jolly mood ) in any age group.
Re: Anyone into hardcore?
been on such a massive hardcore/grindcore binge lately. mostly despise you, magrudergrind, gridlink (new discordance axis band), hatred surge, and of course the oldies but goldies as posted amongst plenty of others.

Bastard Noise was around in the early/mid '90s when MITB was still active. Friends of mine almost released a split with BN some time ago. No idea why it didn't went through, though.esfandyar wrote:also i was lucky enough to see bastard noise recently which is a new group by members of man is the bastard.
Eric Wood does a bunch of things. Antennacle is cool too.
