Sounds pretty much like glastonbury, but perhaps with more hippies.

Everyone who goes to glastonbury instantly becomes so nauseatingly enamoured with it that they won't stop comparing every other festival to it, moaning about how they aren't there and telling other people that they don't understand how good it is until they've been.

The only thing about that is, I've been to glastonbury about five times and it IS great. It's not really a spiritual experience or anything like that, it's just hundreds of thousands of happy people fucked on drugs dancing to music and not wanting to kill each other for a few days.

As for telling people they aren't as good if they haven't been to a festival- fuck off and die.

As it gets closer and closer and more of my friends make their preparations to go, I wish I was able to go. A few of my friends are completely enamored with it and speak of it as 'home' and the regular world as some kind of alternate reality. Kinda funny if you ask me, but I would pretty much give anything right now to hide in a trunk and get out there.

I was thinking about going next year but a friend of mine who's gone the past couple years is trying to convince me to go to Sensation White and Black in Amsterdam. It's one of the people who I actually want to go hang out with on the playa so we'll see. Maybe I'll be in a position to do both next year.

Aside from the fact that it was dangerous to do so, I thought it was pretty funny too. Of the four times I've been to Burning Man, I missed The Burn twice. Of the two times I saw The Burn, only once was I at the massive gathering close to The Man when it happened. I understand that it's supposed to be the 'climax' of the event, but for it to really upset anyone that the man burned early just seems silly to me. The incredible experiences and memories I have from Burning Man are largely unrelated to The Burn itself. The loads of people who come out for a day or two just for The Burn are really missing out.

I saw the thing about the premature burn and thought "man broke the rules and the place with no rules". Good on him.

Burning Man is amazing. I've been four times now. I wish so badly that I could go again this year, but I can't afford to.

I don't have any digital pics from my first year (2001), but here are the others, if you care to look through them:

2003
2004
2005

1st comment
I am always sad and sympathetc toward people who are so down and hopeless that they see suicide as the only choice.. but I have NO sympathy for the idiots who leave their messes for their friends to find. None.
Well. What the fuck are you talking about then? You contradictory tnuc.

I don't think they're friends and family are are in the forfront of they're minds when they kill them selves. If that was the case, they probably wouldn't kill them selves. The thing with suicide is that the pain far out ways any feeling you may have for the people you love.

I want to go at some point, but I don't really love the psychedelic experience like THAT anymore, and I think it would be kind of pointless without it, really.

Never made sense to me how this takes place in a desert (correct me if I'm wrong), if I'm tripping hard on some shit the LAST place I want to be is a motherfucking desert. lol
