Re: What do you work as and what's your dream job?
Current Job - Getting pizzas to the masses
Dream Job - Have my ska band do a world tour, make music that people trip out to, hmmm I dunno.... I would really be interested in getting into the cannabis industry after it gets taxed and legalized in cali, but the drug game is still just the drug game until then.
Honestly I try not to define myself by what I do to pay the bills. If I deliver pizza for the rest of my life but make music that people love then that's well enough for me.

Re: What do you work as and what's your dream job?
Current : Student senior year Univ. Metals and Jewelry Design
unattainable dream: Architect/Landscape Designer
slightly less unattainable dream: coffeeshop/all ages music venue owner
I wouldn't mind being a slumlord - buy properties, fixing them up, and renting them out..
I love making places nice, and I especially like working in the garden..
All monies go to support my music habit though...
gardens and music ...and the car
I have super transient issues - I like to come and go and move around and see things constantly..
so the idea of a static job and signing on for mortgages etc. is a huge, frightening proposition..
I'm getting to this point where I have too much stuff - like tools for making jewelry...
(I say this yet - compared to others I have nothing)
But to do it properly you need it to be set up - and it's bugging me..
I feel like to do anything seriously - is an anchor.
I met this kid who owns a really sucessful cafe and gelato shop in the town I used to live in...
And he said that almost all of his profit goes to pay the bank for the loan..
So he has this madly sucessful shop and makes a nominal wage -
He won't see any of his profit for like 15 years - he's going to be sick of it by then..
If he's lucky enough to maintain it's popularity over that span of time..
I guess the benefit is - being in charge of your own..

Nah, it's an individual major. Well, at least in the states.antistar_133 wrote:is that the follow on from product design? i remember doing my A level dt exam on the process of designing and manufacturing jewelry through sand casting etc, was pretty interesting!bright maroon wrote:Current : Student senior year Univ. Re: What do you work as and what's your dream job?
The way it works in the states...
You have general education requirements..you must complete all of them...This is the same for everyone..
English Composition
Math
Speech
Psychology
Philosophy
Aesthetics
Natrural Science
Your Histories(Art and Architecture Histories in this case since it is art school)
Applied Creative Thinking
Intro Computer Art Applications etc. etc.
Then you have Foundations..which are the same on the lower levels for everyone, and major specific at the higher levels
exp. Since my major is considered a "Design" major - I had to take the mechanical drawings - but a painting or sculpture major could take life drawings instead...or a graphics/photography major could take photoshop 1&2 or illustrator 1&2 - architecture/industrial /furniture design kids would do the CAD modelling stuff- rhino, hypershot
but you still have to take your majors requirements - and then you have some free electives - and that's where you can stack classes towards a minor or double major...This is generally where you declare a major and lock in..
2D Design
3D Design
Color Theory
Drawing 1,2
Life Drawing 3,4
Drawing for Design
CAD Classes
Intro to all Major courses
2 or 3 free electives
Then you have your major requirements...and major electives
Exp. In metals I must do the required - but have a certain number of free major electives so I can focus on say forging or stone setting or mechanisms or enamelling or casting or CAD or any combination of them...or all of them if I want to extend my stay and buy all of them.
In My case
Studio 1-5
History of Metals
Design and Inspiration for Metals
Senior Project
Professional Pratices
and I'm not sure exactly but like - 3 or 4 electives in my major..
but you have to do like 80 credit hours in your major courses to degree..60hrs in foundations and 40 or 60 in academics..and x amount in your minor if you want to declare a minor..
I have no idea how you guys do it in Europe...

Re: What do you work as and what's your dream job?
oh... and they are making graduating really difficult in a territorial way..
Who is in possession of the studio/field type shit ..
I am hating it right now - but only have like 3 or 4 classes left..
too much like work..people jockying for the top spot..
I'm totally down for the self-sustainable garden angle..
I missed a class today because I got on the wrong bus and feel guilty..
I do not need to feel this guilt right now..
pressure to succeed is so counter productive..
I mean listen...suc ceed

why don't you make your own thread you pirate
Dark angel, fall from the heavens above, send me an angel to heal my heart from being in love... After all of the love for you, in my life, but it wasn’t good enough for you, I can’t take no more tears from my eyes.... But it wasn’t good enough for you, I can't take no more hurt from that time....

I have fairly unrealistic desires.
