Amon Tobin...
compression rate does it zero favours though, such textural music. its aesthetic puts me in mind of burial to some degree
rhythmically he sounds like he's been affected by dubstep's ascendance, a lot of very steppy rhythms, quite garagey in places, seems to be moving away from the crashing breaks etc.
some of it is unbelievable, he's sidestepped irrelevance (which not many of his scene/era have managed). he was always out on his own though

deep, im well excited now. with this and King Midas Sound Ninja Tunes seem to be creeping back towards relevanceninja tunes wrote:Having made several albums from reconstructed vinyl sources it was time to look at what else could be pulled apart and reassembled. The focus now has shifted from the source material altogether and placed squarely on the manipulation of sound regardless of it's origin. Armed with a sound engineer (Vid Cousins) and a collection of microphones he set out to find source material in pretty much everyplace possible. Robotics, animals, insects, musicians, utensils, motorbikes, and about a thousand other things that made interesting noises were all mic'ed and fashioned into the tracks that make up his new album 'Foley Room'. It should be noted that although the process was quite experimental that the record isn't an exercise in avant-garde music. Rather the end result is still pure Amon Tobin but pushed miles forward in sonics and melody due to the depth of source material. Also Amon isn't claiming to have invented the wheel here but rather is paying a certain hommage to a long history of musique-concrete composition, at the same time satisfying his love for pushing the envelope of his output and knowledge of the recording process. The process itself is documented on a short film/documentary that will be included with the CD & LP release of this record. Watch for an early single "Bloodstone" to be released on 12" and digital formats as a lead up early in 07, and the full album 'Foley Room' to drop in March 07.

Superb show as usual! My favourite bit was Gonzales's lyric 'I constantly constipate the crowd' - kerlassic.

i got to play support for him recently when he was in aus (didnt get bricolage signed though
) and he tore the fucking roof off. adelaide has a heavy d&b scene and amon ripped the place to pieces, on a thursday night just before christmas no less - the place was rammed more than it is on most weekends.

big-up and thank you so much for listening..
please hit the Real Player for me on the BBC site.. i know it's a piece of shit and i tell the bosses so all the time..
it has to be that way so the publishers and artists protect their music..
i have asked a million times about digital podcasting... i won't let go of it, don't worry... again it's an issue the BBC need to resolve with publishers who own the rights to the music..
our new RAJAR figures are up again inspite of the time shift to 2am..
we're in the top quarter of all Radio1 shows in terms of 'listen again' numbers, but i could still do with a some more hits.. if you get a moment, i'd really appreciate it...

Those of you who would like podcasts of Mary Anne's show might be up for filling in this survey from the BBC trust about their proposed online content delivery.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/consult/o ... vices.html
Specifically one of the proposals is -
'Non-digital rights management (DRM) audio downloads over the internet (podcasting of selected radio programmes)'
Also there's a question -
'How important is it that the proposed seven-day catch-up service over the internet is available to consumers who are not using Microsoft software?'
I would love podcasts of loads of BBC content, and i'd like to be able to access all the BBC's proposed online content on my mac, so i filled it out.
Edit: congrats on those listening figures MA!

did you hear that tune a year or two back that was made using only samples of vegetables being hit/dropped etc? it sounded organic and quite differentelgato wrote:deep, im well excited now. with this and King Midas Sound Ninja Tunes seem to be creeping back towards relevanceninja tunes wrote:Having made several albums from reconstructed vinyl sources it was time to look at what else could be pulled apart and reassembled.
