1984
Youve probably already seen it but still.
Great book, Great film. Dark with a sci-fi feel to it.

I ended up watching Blade Runner and part of Dark City!

Lots of good suggestions here, thanks. I'll be checking some of them out on ilovefilm :)

Zena, have you seen Brazil? It's based around 1984 and directed by Terry Gilliam, it's really good and has Deniro in it, albeit a very small minor part.

It's almost as crap as the book! If I was the father I'd have eaten that child long ago and kept a leg to barter with. Whine, whine, whine, that's all he ever did you'd think he'd have got used to his dystopian lifestyle since he was actually born into and knows nothing better. Fuck him, kill him, eat him.

Blade Runner for me, I can watch it again and again and again. The sets, the music, the story and the philosophy are all perfect for me.

Yes! It's a great film and very original. I'll have to buy it as I have only watched an xvid of it and wouldn't mind getting the proper DVD for extras.
The film depicts an underground trade in luck; where fortune flows from those who have less to those who have more. Rooted in magical realism, the premise purports that luck can be amassed and transferred as any other commodity.

The story follows several participants as they engage in literal games of chance, each one more risky than the last to eliminate the unlucky.

the edukators is another good german film

my other recommendations are:
City of God
The Darjeeling Limited
Ong Bak/Ong Bak 2/Warrior King (anything with Tony Jaa for mindless fun)
Dogma
V for Vendetta
Watchmen

I'm sure you've probs seen most of them
