Re: lf some kick you in the face snare/kick samples
Really?? Are you actually applying anything on top of these, or using them standard? You can make any kick or snare smack you in the face if you use it well, even the FL packs. Vengeance is without a doubt the best place to start.jheart wrote:using vengeance samples right now, not very impressed

they cannot be trying hard and I would assume must be real lazy and have zero interest in music production really imo.marshy wrote:Really?? Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Re: lf some kick you in the face snare/kick samples
I think perhaps you're trying to use these samples as-is, but it's not that simple.jheart wrote:using vengeance samples right now, not very impressed
the vengeance samples are great, but you have to play around with ADSR, eq, compression, fx.
load them into a drum rack or sampler or whatever, and simply mess with them until they sound good. layering different samples can yield some good results, and I find that shortening the decay is necessary for nearly every pre-fab drum sample in order to maximize punch.
also, apply reverb to snares/claps, to hats and other percussion (and to nearly any other non-sub bass element for that matter), even if just a tiny bit. it really fills-out the sound. if you just want subtle reverb, shorten the decay time, add a bit of reflection, minimize diffusion, not very wet.
one other thing, try to avoid mashing-up the samples with fx in an attempt to find a quick fix. subtle, simple manipulations are usually sufficient. =)

Re: lf some kick you in the face snare/kick samples
lol i have the 2 best snares ive found layered with a clap, still cant quite make the sound im looking for with them, no matter what it seems i do. anyways, i posted this to find out about different samples/packs with good snares, not to be suggested what to do with vengeance, i understand you guys may be able to make what YOU are looking for with vengeance, but like i said im not impressed. kthx

I've got a DJ Premier Hip Hop sample pack, some absolute beasts in there I would definitely recommend it. If you cant find the kicks and snares your wanting with that or the vengeance sound pack then you should really think about getting a new hobby

Whichever samples you end up using, EQing and Compression are your friends

Re: lf some kick you in the face snare/kick samples
I have to side with the OP here on this one - I really don't like the vengeance packs. Thomas Penton all the way - and yes I layer them, compress them.etc. I just find Thomas Penton to have far superior samples than any of the vengeance packs I've used. That's not to say I don't use them, but I will usually choose a thomas penton sample over a vengeance one.marshy wrote:Really??
