Your favorite Key?

Post by Jhonny2x4 » Wed Apr 07, 2010 11:41 pm

What's you favorite key you tend to produce most of you tunes in?

Mine would have to be C# minor.

And yours?

D minor, which is the saddest of all keys, I find. People weep instantly when they hear it, and I don't know why.

All black keys, which is either F# Major pentatonic or Eb Minor pentatonic...depending on your woot woot note!

I sincerely love Emin. I very much like the color of this one. Anybody tried a dubstep tune with a foreign mode and thinks it sounds good ?

I tend to like to have my main low note at F give or take a step. That doesn't necessarily mean I produce in the key of F tho. It might be the root or it might be a 7th or a 5th etc. Depends on what I am going for. Sometimes I start with all white keys just to make sure I am using the whole scale without having to think too much about it. Again that doesn't mean it's the key of C, I may start with a different root to give it a different feel or maybe even I just sketch it out like that and transpose once I have my idea down. I like the Phrygian mode alot. Basically I can't give you a short answer here heheh

I imagine you could use arabic maqams pretty effectively in dubstep. Haven't tried it. Keep meaning too but I've too much other stuff to finish first.

EDIT: Does anybody else really hate the sound of melodic and harmonic minors?

Are any of you actually serious? You actually think one key sounds different to another? Certain registers of an instrument sound better, not often a big deal with synthesised instruments, aside from that it doesn't fucking matter.
