Hmmm. QuandryThinKing wrote:that's an absolute disgrace. Have some respect for the artists.
I see it thus: Kool 5 loved the track, went to the trouble of ripping it and inserting it in a low bit rate mix with a credit to ekaj via the tracklist. I downloaded it (well attempted to) and now know of ekaj which I didn't before and now added him to myspaz so...thats good? Its not like the track wasn't in the public domain even tho not finished but clearly Kool 5 (who has impeccable taste) thought it was good enough for one of his mixes. Artist however sees it different and so do a LOT of cats here - emotive subject done to death etc.
*shakes head*

no sorry mate I don't see it the way you do.
Dude ripped a track when he couldn't get it any other way because it hasn't been made available for the public to buy (or for free). It remains the property of the artist in question. I assume he didn't even approach Ekaj about getting a copy off him, just went right ahead and ripped it. It shows a lack of respect to the artist for this reason, and also cos it will be at a vastly reduced bitrate and therefore not sound how the producer intended it to.
Just because you like a piece of music doesn't mean you're allowed to own it. Somehow the digital age has warped perceptions and peeps think they have rights to stuff which just isn't theirs.
I'd love to own & play Changes in my sets, but if I ripped a copy off Mala's myspace or out of a DJ mix I'd imagine my name would be mud in this scene pretty bloody quickly.
