no.
with a total lack of any greater goal for humanity as a whole, i dont see much being lost from the extinction of humans. except a shitload of suffering.

Agent Smith summed it up pretty well.

I agree with this 2bh. Being a massive misanthropist myself, i'd also use the Agent Smith Quote to sum it up.
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

just the talk of humanity as a whole, like how it talks about how we are all linked, then with all the bad shit going on you come to the idea of being a weak link?

If you mean from our perspective then yes. But if you mean from another species or aliens' perspective then probably not, although aliens might want to ask us stuff I suppose.

i believe that there are very few inherent human characteristics....the vast majority are defined by environment and upbringing so we should be pointing the finger at modern civilisation, not the individual cogs who have created something they have no control over

I think we're worth saving, think of all the dogs that would die if we vanished :( Dogs don't deserve that.

Plus the universe would be a much less musical place without us.

I dunno, I used to be really bleak about it all and just used to think this planet would be better off if we built a massive ship and went cruising the galaxy for a few generations until we either found somewhere new or snuffed it from lack of resources... but now I think a bit more optimistically.

All this struggle and suffering would seem far more futile and pointless if it were all to just end.

But then again, I don't think there is such a thing as 'humanity' in reality. I think we're incabable of working and co-operating as a whole like that, unless everybody made like a buddhist in meditation and shed their ego's completely and forever; which, let's face it, ain't gonna happen, because we're just human after all :)

Maybe we have too high an expectation of ourselves and our place in the grand scheme of things. :?

I'm struggling to make much sense here... lol

Sustainably yes, but definitely not peacefully.

BTW, no, humanity is not worth saving in its current state.
