As far as we know, we're the only species that has a concept of what is "good" or "bad" for the Earth as a planet. If we were extinct, the Earth would cease to be good or bad, as nobody would be able to judge it.

Of course we should save ourselves; what a stupid question. We're brilliant. We're impetuous, greedy, proud, narcissistic, ugly, fat and we're also clever enough to have invented words for all those things. We scrape minerals from the earth, forge metals and design and build electronic instruments that make amazing music. We travel in space. We built the fucking pyramids and Tapei 101... we built and destroyed the World Trade Centre as a centrepiece for what we believe in... we are every possible point between good and evil at once.

We're just about the most interesting thing anyone's ever discovered.

Oh, and we deserve to survive if we survive. Them's the rules round these parts, I believe.

We fuck it up, we go extinct like all the animals before that over-ate their resources or didn't have enough strength for the drought.

Natural selection doesn't do "good" and "bad" it just does "lives to breed" and "doesn't live to breed".

We've achieved quite a bit to be fair. But you could argue either way and be justified I guess.

Most apes behave better than we do. We're almost an insult to apekind.

I think we're only worth saving if we wake up enough to save ourselves. Not worth saving if it's because of some external reason, be it weather-change-to-the-point-of-no-return, fanatical godfearingness, alien intervention, whatever. It has to come from within.

Marmite needs to turn this into a new ad campaign.

actually, speaking of Marmite adverts, whilst eating some marmite XO yesterday, I suddenly thought, why did they call it Marmite XO. What they should have called it is marMIGHTIER.

Anyway, we'll stop on the Marmite now.

what has humanity achieved? really?
a slight understanding of the universe we are part of? technology that just allows us to either rape our own planet more or just add layers of unnecessary complexity to our already bloated lives?
art? just inferior copies of the world around us, according to the artists perceptions of it.

edit: lol only just read the end bit of that quote. damn me and my quick reply! but my question still stands:p...

don't get me wrong i'm not saying any of that stuff doesn't have any relevance to our lives.
i love mdma and i study physics :D

but all i'm saying is that none of these things (not even marmite) have any value outside of our lives. we give them value, but more than that, we give ourselves value.
