Muscle pain staying too long producing on the computer ?

Post by Hellomadame » Wed Apr 14, 2010 5:18 am

Hahaha this is probably another aspect of music composition but, do you feel muscle pain staying a lot at the computer producing music making clicks and precise adjustements ? I have like a progressive pain in the back, the shoulder and the arm whenever I produce more than 2 hours and I have quite a good chair. SO am I a special case or have you also been expericing some of it while producing each day and making thousands of clicks ?

(If this threads is considered as being useless delete it).

Adjust your monitor so that the top matches your eye level. Also, have enough room on the desk to rest your arm. Don't put the mouse too far away, cause you'll be reaching.

Also; learn your daw's keyboard shortcuts too. This will help both your workflow and your muscle pain.

Don't really get pains. However I have trouble staying awake when producing in the late evening sometimes. Like last night I was making a drum pattern but I was also half asleep and realised I was just pressing shit. So I went to sleep... Mainly due to having a 9-5 job.

Gotta take breaks man, If i'm at it all day I take breaks at least every 2 hours now, walk about, get a scran and stuff. I used to just sit there for 8 hours straight on some days and even forget to eat, just dragging audio regions around and tweaking virtual knobs but it was fucking my back, eyes and general health up, so I bought and positioned midi controllers so I have to get up and get hands on without having to stare at the screen to make music and it is much better.

Thanks you guys !

Really helped. But I realised something, when I'm super focused I sort of forget every muscle pain going on in my shoulder. Still I looked at the picture above (not the monkey one =__=) and really helped.

Well pain killer works only ... one time or every other time you have to take one of those. I'm looking a bit more to know your long term tips and tricks on production ergonomy.
