my ex' girlfriends mother just called me.
she's giving a surprise thing for her daughter and asked me to be there.
my ex and i broke up months ago and recently got in touch again, so so far so good.

the problem i'm having with this is that i want her to be a good friend, she's an inspiring person and i really like her.
but since we've got talking again i have been doubting about the way i fit into her life.

we study in different cities and even though i always liked her before we got to be together, us getting together was something somewhat rushed and coincidentially.
so it's not like we've really known each other in any other way than being together.
we study at different cities, have different places of origins, know different kind of people so appart from both listening to grime, hip hop, have been dnb dj's, being into photography, graphic design and illustration, checking out street art, being into sneakers and clothes and oh yeah, magazines and book design aswell, i can't think of anything that connects us really.
the time i've been with her and the time right after she dumped me was very important as i got to learn a lot from her, putting myself to question and eventually getting out of it more aware of myself.

but now that we got to see each other as friend again i'm wondering in what way she approaches me as we have no similar friends or backgrounds and it just seems a bit weird to be friends.
yet i really want to stay friends with her and she's the only ex girlfriend i've done the efforts to do so so far.
and now i promised her mother to be there.
it's going to be surprise that'll end up me questioning why the hell i'm there with a bunch of people i don't even know and have a stronger bond with her than i'm afraid i'll ever have

Sorry to hear that and I hope that you and your family get through it OK. I had a similar thing with my liver last year (and still need monthly scans), if it's any consolation you get used to it and gallows humour will kick in. All the best.
