Make sure you're using the ASIO driver in Ableton, and make sure you've got the same sampling rate set in the AK1 ASIO control panel and in the Sound control panel in Windows.

Also have setup those and still the same problem and i also get a distortion/fuzzyness sound that over powers songs every 20mins or so.... i sent native instruments a message so well see if they have anything to say. Thanks for the feedback guys

ive had this problem before.
everything thats been said so far are legit solutions.
try plugging in, then restart your computer before using it.
and assign the device as your default in control panel and inside of your DAW's preferences.

although i'm on mac these days. so i can't remember the last time i had to fck around to get my AudioKontrol working.

but thats what's worked for me in the past.

What kind of distortion? If it's kinda horrible digital stuttering, I have a similar problem sporadically on my AK1 on PC whenever Windows audio was being used (iTunes, Youtube etc), although the ASIO drivers (music production) are fine. the DirectSound drivers are, eh, not very good.

The only thing I can think of is something is running in demo mode. Do you get the noise when nothing is running?

That is exactly what happens... nothing i can do?

ill have a song or youtube video running and then all of a sudden it will go from perfect quality sound to a completely muffled and un-listenable sound completed distorted.

i was thinking that too but i have registered it on the Native instruments service center. Na i dont because i stop the song or video whnever it comes on and the distortion stops. Its so frustrating.

I didn't mean that the AK1 was doing that but rather something else that happened to be running. IDK

Faaaaaaaaaarrrr out this is so shit, you spend so much money on these things to get them working and straight out of the box problems. Pretty good when customer service doesnt write back in over a week too! :u:

Yeah, it's a pain in the arse. I'd ring up support rather than emailing, I think they're usually quite efficient on the phone. I never fixed it on mine, but it only happens sporadically and usually sorts itself out if I close itunes/youtube and reopen. I got it free and only use it at work so I never really bothered pursuing it further...

It won't be that; by the sounds of things it's almost certainly a driver problem or hardware conflict. You could try disabling EVERYTHING in device manager to see if you can track down a conflict (peripherals, CD drives, disk drives, unplug other usb devices etc) but I'd try and speak to support first...

Ive had the same problem, and through reading about it on the Native Instruments website forum and other windows based forums i have found a lot of ppl with the same issue. Basically its a driver issue (assuming you are using windows 7 or vista????), and im just waiting for a fix because i love how good the sound is coming out of the kontrol 1. There is a trouble shooting guide if you want to follow it but it doesnt really help hopefully the updated driver will be out soon but im not really counting on it NI seems very busy at the moment. :u:
