Why is FL studio looked down upon?

I'm just wondering, being a FL studio user (and Renoise) that when i mention i use FL studio to people, they gotta say something bad about it, or say something like "that's a toy" or whatever. I just don't get it. Now ok, most people that said that don't know anything about music production and were mostly just my mates but still, i feel that FL studio has a bad reputation for some unknown reason.

Is there stuff other DAWs can do that FL studio can't? I don't think so....or not that i've seen. And why do magazines like Computer Music etc rarely talk about FL studio anymore? I remember when they use to back in the early 00's. But now they just rape Albeton and Cubase etc. Fair play though, i respect those DAWs but i don't see why FL studio is being ignored. Maybe it's just elitism, i dont know. It's not really been bothering me, but i was just wondering. I guess it all comes down to personal preference and desired workflow. Other DAWs seem suitable for others.

Probably this mainly. I think lots of people get a huge ego boost from claiming to use "superior" software and writing you off completely.

IMHO, FL is just another vehicle to get you to the same place as all other DAWS take you...

a lot of people make good tunes on FL studio

people start hating and it spreads like the clap. even if the program is great (which FL definetly is) it just becomes a matter of people saying it sucks because it's cool and expected to say it sucks.

Sure it can do anything another daw can... It's better at 1 or 2 things even... But some of the functions are stowed away in far places. It's perceived as crap because people tend to not look further.

I just personally think it fucks up my workflow and am glad I made the switch to ableton...

Back in the day (when there were fewer software options), most studios either used Pro Tools or Cubase. Fruity Loops did look like a toy compared to PT and Cubase back then.

The same kinds of things are said about Reason, for the same reasons imo.

The graphics don't make any software better than another, but the features do.

Fruity appeared when Pro Tools and Cubase were firmly established as industry standards.

New software like Reaper is still being levelled on feature based arguements like this all the time...

Who cares? Just install the latest version of Reaper today and everything will work out just fine!

If you can back it up say fruity loops without being 'its what i use innit', despite what it would appear colleges dont just want a bunch of guy who toe the line - oxford/cambridge applicants are sometimes taught to make a ridiculous argument and balance it as best they can so they stand out from the crowd.

Yeah that's what i would've done, but i'm not actually applying. I was told about it by someone who has previous done the course.

People are silly, apparently 'When I Look At You' by Emalkay was made 100% on FL, and that was one of last years massive bangers so fuck what people say. [Don't know if thats true btw, but I've heard it said, but my point still stands ]

Probably also got something to do with the fact that practically no pro studios (as in, live recording studios) use it. I would imagine (though I'm not sure) that its editing capabilities and workflow aren't quite as streamlined as, say, Pro Tools, for intensive audio editing stuff like fixing live drum takes, splicing parts etc, which doesn't really matter if you're making EDM. Also, what are its routing options like? I'm playing devil's advocate here as I've never used FL, but bear in mind that just because it does everything you need it to do, doesn't mean it does everything that someone else might want it to do, as quickly and efficiently as one of the bigger players...

It really doesn't matter anyway though; use whatever makes you feel the most creative.

you made good points. Heavy audio editing is not what FL is about. It's very creative tool for creating music, not editing it...
