It's called a re-edit for a reason :]
The opening was reworked a fair bit. Removed the epic buildup and worked in some that I think are more fluid. Lots of minor edits and cuts all throughout.
I wanted to stay true to the original because it's a badass tune, I just didn't particularly like the build up for the kind of sets I usually play, so my main motivation in doing this was just having a custom version to play out, and figured I might as well share the love. :D

understood. my reasoning is this:

if someone took a tune that i had worked hard on and had JUST released, made a couple of VERY simple and minor adjustments, and started handing it out, i would be livid.

honestly i see it as a huge disrespect to one of the most talented and hardest working individuals in the game as of now.

but who knows, maybe bassnectar is flattered by it

So far I've probably given it to maybe 20 people, and of those I would imagine a few have already bought the album/song. Of those remaining maybe some might buy it in the future, some others not, and I doubt having this track is going to be what turns those people away. Hardly a huge dent on his market.

I do know that with this tune I have turned quite a few people on to Bassnectar who had never heard him before, which I imagine will end up gaining him fans in the future, music/ticket sales/etc.
I've met him a few times and have some good friends who toured with him for a while, and from what I know of him, he is really, really chill. The last thing I'd want to do is kick dirt in the face of someone I respect, and I don't think giving out this track to a small group of people does that.

Also, I don't consider what I did on the song "VERY simple and minor." The structure of the song remains the same, but I put quite a bit of work into it.
But, it's just a difference of opinion I guess. I'll be flattered the day someone does this to one of my tracks, assuming it's well done anyway. I think my re-edit is.

i guess we're all entitled to an opinion

but these are FACTS:

1) without permission, you're giving away someone else's art.

2) this art is this person's livelihood.

3) you're trying to justify giving it away because you made some edits.

now you can keep on about "oh, im giving him exposure... blah blah bullshit"

but the facts are the facts, and you sir, are wrong.

now fuck off and write an original tune for fuck's sake

Eh you're a pretty cool guy.

I don't have to justify it, but you brought it up so I figured I'd give you my reasons.
Don't worry, I won't ever steal any of your precious wobble profits with a re-edit. :t:

Is this a contest now? :]
Congratulations on your beatport success.
Though, I don't really think that beatport's top 100 list is the best gauge for track quality.

I really like what I did to this track. I think other people do to. I would like to hear it get played out and for people to enjoy themselves to this tune. I certainly wish to take nothing away from Lorin as he is a badass, and I can't fathom he will be losing anything of me doing so. I hope one day to make consistent money from my music, but I'm still very much a music comes first kind of person. I didn't put this track up to get lots of hits, I put it up because I enjoy it more than the original(which I still love) and I want others to enjoy it as much as I do.
I have a link to Bassnectar's soundcloud and the Bass Head song itself in my soundcloud link of the song and I've been as transparent as I can be in crediting him for his tune.

And if not anything else, the hundreds of dollars I've spent over the years catching his shows and on his music should make up for the couple dollars potentially lost. I want nothing but the best for that dude, and this isn't my lame attempt at piracy.

I don't feel like arguing anymore. I'm sorry you disagree with me. :w:
