I'm not into trance at all, but I'm sure it can be done, as long as it's done tastefully...Joy Orbison's "Hyph Mngo" is a good example of dubstep with some heavy trance / progressive house vibes.


This one has been described as trancey by a lot of people...if it is, it wasn't really on purpose, but I was thinking of a hands-in-the-air rave kinda vibe when I did it...

I guess I'm one of those shit producers who put the snare on the 3rd etc.

However, I don't think experimentation is arrogance. That I disagree with. No beginner producer in their right mind or even decent-ish producer in their right mind would proclaim that their remix is better than the original, but dubstep remixes are always going to be around and tracks are their for the remix taking. It becomes a habit eventually, remixing, I'm a bit addficted to it now, cos I started off doing it for fun/curiousity. It's not a bad thing though I don't think.

See i agree with jaydot on this, remixing is really fun and the whole reason someone would put it on youtube or this forum is just for some feedback to see what everyone thinks of the track. As if you dont like it when someone says cool track man that was sick... Im working on a remix of tell me why by supermode in no way will it be better then the original but its just for some fun. Just the half time 140bpm in my opinion adds so much more depth to a song but thats my thoughts, each to their own. I can see what everyones saying about remixing and shit and how ppl only to do it try and get instant fame but they are f**kwits anyway and they arent going anywhere with their music.

And Skream's credentials rocketed after "In for the Kill", for me personally.

But Skream certainly was already a well known head. And he did that remix so much justice.

I do it genuinely for the fun, curiousity to see what the track will sound like. My first proper track was a remix (of Delerium's Silence) before I had even heard Mt Eden's or even listened to many remixes. I just thought it would be a good idea.

Now that remix isn't as good as it could be by any stretch of the imagination, but once you do a remix of a tune people will start to recognise you as "the guy that remixed x song". Now that's a good thing right? Although I didn't do the track as good an honour as I could have, surely for a little known producer like myself and others to get any kind of recogniton is productive?

And I know I demonstrate your point by saying that above, as it could be a cheap way of getting "fame", but it just sets people apart from the usual stuff. It's getting harder and harder to make an orignal sound nowadays from what I have listened to. So dubstep/trance crossovers, not remixes per se, but trancey dubstep (Zomby I notice is producing some nice stuff btw) are quite refreshing in my opinion.

I thought I was doing something original, and 5 months ago it kinda was (although there were a lot of remixes, not as much as now though it seems). I need to stop remixing stuff though still, kinda getting too used to it.

what a bastardization two great genres of music. to reduce trance down to that level is like saying dubstep is a bunch of halftime beats with some wobble bass.

both trance and dubstep have lots of terrible and commercial tunes, but you have to dig deep to find the good stuff!

I've always liked trance since day one, from the dancey trance like Ian Van Dahl, Alice Deejay, etc to the trancier trance like Rank 1 and Tiesto. It's a great genre of music and something to put on if you don't want to listen to dark and depressing stuff,

I used to spin/produce trance - but have left that and now soley produce melodic-sounding dubstep (and the occasional DnB track).

To me... I love good melody and the moods that can be established from using lots of melody. It's not my goal to make "Trancey Dubstep" or anything, just I want to produce bass heavy music with LOTS of strong melody.

I got a few tracks on Myspace and Soundcloud that you may dig... a couple of them are scheduled to be released this year (once VOX/MC have been recorded).

I started a track today, its kind of trancey and I just saw this thread, so here, I don't really know where to go with it though... (ignore the crackhouse style drop...)
