I hadn't heard any Mt Eden before, and I'm actually suprised by how little I'm offended by it. I mean, it's not good or anything, but I was expecting totally identikit filthy wobbles and actually got badly produced emo with below par bass. Which for some reason didn't piss me off anywhere near as much.

The reason he gets so much hate (although most of it seems to be on this forum) is a reaction to the infinitely greater number of people, most of which have absolutely no knowledge of dubstep or electronic music in general, who think he is amazing and the biggest thing in dubstep. What annoys me most is he takes really good tunes, samples about 90% of them and adds a bit of generic bass/kicks and snares and everyone thinks hes the dogs bollocks. That shit doesn't take talent

People's (unlucky) first exposure to 'dubstep' being Mt Eden i don't have a problem with. This is the internet after all. People who are serious about discovering this type of sound will always delve deeper anyway. Its the people who have only heard Mt Eden or any other 'sic/filthy/a$$ raping etc ..' boring midrange wobble tune and then claim that they know all about dubstep, or in one of my own experiences, "Na Loefah just doesn't have enough bass for me, play some Datsik instead" .

Lack of information/exposure i'm cool with. Ignorance not so much

tbh if you don't like mt eden, then you cant like about 80% of dubstep nowadays
which is completely understandable! so theres no point trying to defend dubstep anymore, as all your defending is bullshit
unless you want to argue for the 0.7 dmz releases per year

theres still loads of mind blowing stuff coming out all the time, its just a shame that it's overlooked by the large percentage of people who think 'dub' is just filthy wobbles, i do have a soft spot for dirtyness and wobbles but i dont think these people are even aware of the other end of the dubstep spectrum existing

its all as shit as each other, mt eden is only taking all the stick because he happens to be the biggest wobble king atm

He isn't really a "wobble king" though. His sound isn't really "filthy" at all. Have you ever listened to Sierra Leone? It's a sonic disaster. The kids love that sample though..
