So what's the three things you have the hardest time with.
For me it's
1. Creating original sounding basses.
2. Hi hats
3. Finding good drum samples.

1. Getting a groove that sounds good and MINE
2. Changes in the track
3. Knowing when it's finished

finishing tunes
making the drums change a lot and keeping them interesting
not being lazy and paying attention to small details.

1. bass (making it interesting)
2. snares (good tone, sufficient punch)
3. melody (making it captivating, achieving hummability)
it's okay to struggle. i think the three things i've listed are the most important elements in an edm track, so it's natural to want them to be as good as possible. it's okay to struggle as long as at the end of the journey there is a good result.

The hardest part for me is actually producing what is inside my head. When I am not around the computer I think of all these great ideas and then when I finally get there I just end up doing the same shit I always do. I really need to break out of the structure I usually use. And not being lazy like someone else said but then again I am lazy, it is a part of my personality so if it comes across in my music then so be it.

Agreed on the finishing songs part. Also I have a problem taking the time to do variations. It's a bad habit from my old school hip hop production days when everything was a 16 bar loop haha.

1) Good/original structure while making the track coherent
2) Trying to make an original groove but staying away from the burial drums
3) Being objective about my tracks, I often "finish" them and never go back, but are still massive flaws in them.

1. trying to keep it fresh and original or having my own signature sound or feel to it.
2. structuring it out once i have most of the parts done.
3. finishing older tunes that are there just missing a small part or mixdown.

Yeah I hate this personally, and I wish I didn't...just so much listening and concentrating to the same thing over and over when I just want to finish the tune. It's just not fun for me unless I know exactly what I want to do with it.

Good point on #1 there. I have been battling in my mind about retiring as a label owner because it suck everything out of me including most of my spare time. But things are going good it seems silly to quit now but I just want to be an artist again. What a catch 22.
Money isn't a problem. Always want new shit but I have what I need to make beats. Just need a 50 every now and again for some trees.
#3? Lay off the Viagra imo.

1. doing something with loops. usually after creating a loop i like i just sit and listen to it for days. i suck at arrangement.
2. creating interesting melodies.
3. creating a sound in a synth that i hear in my head. normally i just end up making random sounds and then tweaking them a bit to something usable.

follow patterns use multiple samples for eac insturment keep a main hit for kicks and snares go with ur gut take time on gain structure seperate ur reverb use delay dont over-do effects of eqing rely on good sample and layers.

Finishing tracks.
Bassline variation.
Originality.
And EQing but I am sort of half understanding that now.

Actually make some tracks instead of fucking around with 16-32 bar loops.
Work on getting more variation in sounds.
Spend more time making music.
