Rewinds are stupid now

Post by WatchYourStep » Thu Apr 29, 2010 9:34 pm

I'm nothing if I'm not honest - the first time I ever heard a rewind I laughed out loud and was like "WHAAAT! Did he just do that??" and I cheered and clapped.

Now they're getting annoying.

"But you don't understand - this is my HYOOJ NEW CHEWN!! And I want everyone to lose their minds over and over again!"

Look at people's reactions in this video. It's dead quiet when they rewind, save for one whistle and the MC:

Think of rewinds like Star-wipe-transitions in video editing. Sure they're kinda cool at first, but do you really see them used that much anymore, besides in infomercials?

i don't have a real problem with them. they're still fun, if i was ever at a party to hear any. sometimes the intro to a track is so good you need to hear it! other times, like when Bad Company UK went downhill and something i think called "Planet Dust" or whatever it was...not checking...well, EVERY DJ of the entire night played it, put it back, and at least one played it twice in the same mix. it was no good. if i was playing, i probably wouldn't want to do it or would only do it once. these people that do it over and over end up playing less tracks and having to mix less...that's shit.

it didn't look like people didn't want the rewind, the reaction was good enough after the drop to warrant a rewind.

at least the entire minute and a half intro wasn't played again

saw caspa in denver @ the dub police show. he opened his set with I remember, rewound it, then after he played was D1, and after D1's set Rod Azlan yelled ..."who wants to hear one more from Caspa?" and he played and rewound I remember again.

It works alright with me for tunes I've never heard before..with a shortish intro.. other than that, it gets annoying

rewinding an intro tune is a bit silly but i love rewinds most the time. and ya long sparse intro = no rewind.

if the crowds reaction warrants a rewind you rewind the tune, maybe a couple times if the place is going nuts.

I hate rewinds. Ruins the entire flow and mood of a set. Its like someone turned the lights on in a dark room by mistake.

what if someone else rewinds ur tune? my last set had 2 rewinds by people other than me! one was the headlining DJ on after me and one was the promoter!
