Yeah remember the Rolling Stones and The Beatles? They were both shit.Basic A wrote:Dude all of a sudden I dont like you at all... you dont know ANYONE your saying that about.nowaysj wrote: grooki wrote:Firstly it bothers me that on this forum people use "kids" as a derogatory term. shut your mouth you bitter old fart. i just turned 19 yesterday and for some reason i have no doubt i've seen and done shit that would make you sick just thinking about it, and i've got the scars and a hard limp that'll never go away to prove it. you wanna talk about shallow? self-centered? tell me how shallow most people are after losing a child. no real-world experience, huh? you mean like being homeless and strung out on duster at 13 cuz you got tired of you're mom being so shitfaced 24/7 you had to take shifts with your siblings watching her sleep so she wouldnt choke on her own vomit again? and this isn't just about my life, which really, for all the ups and downs, hasn't been all that hard.nowaysj wrote:The music that the young like is often like the young themselves: shallow, self-centered, and lacking any kind of real world experience.
you're a fool, and i think you're the only one who doesn't realize it here. nobody else is stupid enough to think that producers like cookie monsta and datsik and excision and 16-bit don't genuinely love the music they're making. why would you even say that? it's such a nasty and insensitive thing to say that i honestly wonder if you actually have ever done anything creative in your life.nowaysj wrote:Yes I think that is the implication, and I think it is true to a certain extent.grooki wrote:are you implying that these people don't actually like the music they make and go and listen to?
i totally agree on this one, guitars are so 20th century.nowaysj wrote:A resounding YES!grooki wrote: Have too many people jumped onto the guitar bandwagon.
you're such a prick i can't believe it. are you saying that because you have a different taste in music that other people shouldn't be allowed to make a tune and let people hear it? do you have any concept whatsofuckingever of the creative process? plenty of people make shit music but they do it FOR FUN AND BECAUSE THEY LOVE DOING IT, something that you seem to have absolutely no concept of. i probably won't listen to it but i won't tell them they don't have the right cuz they aren't in line with my warped standards.nowaysj wrote:Well there might just be too many people playing with music making software and sharing their experience with others.grooki wrote: Or maybe even the music wagon?
again, what more justification do they need then the fact that they're a product of somebody's love and dedication? to assume that there's no thought invested in them is so ignorant.nowaysj wrote:It's not about them being intricate, it's about them having musical value, them having some amount of thought invested in them, them having something justifying their existence.grooki wrote: So forget it. Once you forget it, hating on "brostep" or whatever for not having intricate drums
it's midrange music? you must be a detective, huh? did you figure that out all by yourself? everybody has to sit through some tunes they don't like every once in a while at a show, and you don't see normal people shitting tears over it. they just cringe and keep going. i'm sure you know what DJs you like, what DJs you don't like, who will play the midrange and who will avoid it like the plague, right? just go to the nights that you know will be good and don't bother with the rest. it's that simple.nowaysj wrote:It's about expectations. If you buy a record looking to hear some heavy bass music, and instead you get 59 minutes of classical guitar, you're more than welcome to hate on the labeling of the music.grooki wrote:becomes as relevant as hating on classical guitar pieces for not having enough sub.
Truth be told, I do not like brostep. I really don't. It is extremely annoying. But it has nothing to do with me, or it shouldn't, but that shit is in my face, and in my ears and in my mind because of it's forced proximity to music that I really do love. Brostep isn't bass music, it is midrange music.

For instance writing sympathy for the devil at 18, what a shallow self centred song that is.
Yes! Too many producers and not nearly enough artists.nowaysj wrote:Well there might just be too many people playing with music making software and sharing their experience with others.
wow. what a crock of shit.wang wrote:But, but, but...Assassin wrote:Yeah remember the Rolling Stones and The Beatles? I don't think it's a good idea equating songs or 'actual, proper music' to bedroom produced shite that will be a forgotten embarrassment in 5 years time....
Sympathy for the devil is an actual 'song', though. With lyrics. About something. Still stands today.
Most electronic music isn't a song with lyrics or even about something. Tracks. Tracks with stupid names made by 'producers' without artistic ideas in their heads.
Not to say IT ALL ISN'T, but a huge majority of it is just about TECHNIQUE to go BOOM on the DANCEFLOOR. Shallow, shitty shite, for the most part.
I know it pisses people off, especially if you're just starting out in music, but it's true. A lot of electronic music being churned out is the musical equivalent of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ileI2xPOSJA
Is that art? Looks like something you'd print and laminate for a placemat in shitty restaurant, to me. It's a 'painting' for the casual observer, but everything in it is just 'technique'. That's all it is. One technique for this, one technique for that. The overall final work is just a meaningless load of shite. No feeling. Not about anything. Bunch. Of. Cack.
Yeah, I think it's wrong to equate 99.9% of what is being made in this forum to anything that is an actual, proper song with actual, proper lyrics.
But, what about classical music? That didn't have lyrics and is regarded as not being shallow, shitty shite!
Yeah, but those pieces weren't written to go boom, despite how it might have been portrayed on Amadeus.
This.... once again, dude, you dont5 know the people around here so dont assume you do.wang wrote: Most electronic music isn't a song with lyrics or even about something. Tracks. Tracks with stupid names made by 'producers' without artistic ideas in their heads.
Yeah, I think about art a lot and I'm glad that I'm able to see that most electronic producers are just 'people with computers' rather than artists with ideas. There are too many of the former. I hope to make people think more about what they're doing before they sit at their computer without having any idea of what it is they are wanting to do or wanting to convey. What they are adding to an already too deep sea of me-toos.joekool wrote: wow. what a crock of shit.
i'm glad you've given yourself the duty of deciding what is and isn't "art", man. it sure does take the burden off the rest of our shoulders.
Yeah, tough guy. Boots and full beard. Let's arm wrestle.joekool wrote:

p.s. you say "fuck your wobble" by replacing it with one of the single most outdated, overused, and completely laughable one-trick ponies in dance music history?rock solid performance, eh?

I'm not exactly an old man, but I am pretty bitter, but not about the state of the youth. Youth is an experiential/hormonal delusion that must be lived through. Everyone who makes it, has experienced this. Nothing wrong with it, it is just a fact of life. So can y'all please stroke one out and relax a bit?JFK wrote:makes you seem like a bitter old man. As apparently the bitter old man, I don't disagree with this, maybe the percentage, but not the sentiment.abZ wrote:I just have to say as an old man with beard that I do not agree with the other bitter old men in here. 99% of the most important music ever has been made by "kids"
abZ wrote:I just have to say as an old man with beard that I do not agree with the other bitter old men in here. 99% of the most important music ever has been made by "kids" and I am a bit jealous that I didn't have the tools when I was young that you guys do today. That naive excitement about music that I once had is completely gone. I fight with myself constantly while writing tunes because I am jaded and there is nothing I can do about it. It is just something that comes with age. Also my chance to "make it" at least in the way I think that means is no longer an opportunity. Anyway my point is never let some crusty old man put you down. The shit you are doing now isn't for old people, but they will be old some day and then you may get that respect you deserve.
You sure about that? All of it?wang wrote:Yeah, but those pieces weren't written to go boom, despite how it might have been portrayed on Amadeus.
To disprove your point, I refer you to Mt. Eden.jon-OSTIA wrote:If it were total shit i believe we wouldn't even be HEARING the name brostep.
