its basically a latin american mixture of hiphop/dancehall.. dont really know how to explain it better then that cos im not deep into the genre. love what ive heard so far tho! i suppose its one breakthrough tune was that 'gasolina' by daddy yankey which came out a few years ago?

reggaeton is the shit. i'm not deep into it but i used to work with this kid who knew what was up and he got me interested for sure. most of it is centered around one rhythm, kicks on 1 and 3, snares on 2.5 and 4, you'll recognize it if you hear it. has more ties to modern dancehall and rap than straight up reggae, biggest top 40 hit i can think of was pitbull with 'culo'.

just google it - or pull up some mixes on youtube.

gasolina is the archetype but it has roots in electro too. there's a wide range of beats if you really get into it. it also has nice spanish melodic complexity in its chording. and acidy textures. Its been morphing into raverton among other directions such as salsaton, cumbiaton, cubaton and etc. theres also a variety of reggaeton dances that range from dancehall and salsa type movements to peruvian electro uprocking styles.

Awesome dj mix by Wayne and Wax is the "Dem Bo" mix, because reggaeton uses the riddim from that old tune "Dem Bo."

Otherwise, you'll find a bout a THOUSADN reggaeton hits from here in the States. (its been playing on the streets in Brooklyn since 2001 I recall!)
