I never thought they would be so evil.
Be prepared, they may attack.
I wish I could squirt ink though.

Why would you say they're not sentient already?! They have senses, they use their brain to react to their senses - they're sentient!

But then, so are ants.

Was spear fishing in Hawaii once, grabbed a rock as a large wave was rolling through, the wave pulled me, I pulled the rock, and a large octopus flew out from underneath, squirting me with ink. I nearly left an ink cloud of my own. Don't know why it was so frightening, but to have an amorphous blob spontaneously envelope you strikes some pretty primal chords.

Because this planet is doomed, and we need new ones badly.

You and your loved ones might be better served by developing propulsion.

Exploring anything is not a waste of cash. Spending money on weapons research, on the other hand, is. Spending money to legislate and police the internet is also another example of waste.

Squids are not next to be sentient, I'd say they already are. They might even be more intelligent than dolphins and whales. It might not be manifest in the same way as ours, but this should only be expected because they're probably the closest thing to an alien intelligence that we'll come across in our lifetime.

I need to eat one of those Humbolt Squids. I'm thinking it needs slow cooking with some Chorizo, chickpeas and roast tomatoes.
Bring on the Squid invasion i love those weird bastards.

Cripes, you're hard to please.
Coral reefs are one of the Earth's most amazing ecosystems, and they rarely occur in deep water.
You want humans to learn more about the Earth, but you yourself are missing what's right under your nose.

The Obama administration has given NASA heaps of money to study the Earth. Sit tight.

People would do the same thing to the next planet.
