What compressor has a key in feature?

Post by Karma_blitz » Thu May 13, 2010 11:51 pm

I just read up on sidechaing compression (ducking) and i need a compressor that has a key in feature so that the kick can control the dynamics of my bass. I have all the waves plugins and the Nomand pack and Nuedo 3. Do any of these contain a sidechaining compressor that has this? thanks people.

You downloaded them, fair enough. In a nutshell the same way that you'd use native plug ins to side chain.

You can just draw in an automation node for bypass or enable

no I am not the waves police I was just answering your question. and a word of advice... waves plug ins arent exactly the greatest for dubstep production... they make things sound too nice. I use the stock logic plug ins and waves for everything else... but yes read up on your daw... there is always a way to automate turning the compressor on or off.

if you knew how to properly sidechain you wouldnt need that feature. and no automation is 1 way of doing it.. there are other ways... you just need to think outside the box...

jesus some of you lot are so fucking self righteous.

check out fabfilter pro-c, excellent compressor with piss easy side chain function including a key filter.

I haven't used the Waves stuff for years (not since I went legit, anyway), but IIRC, the "sidechaining" on the C1 is a bit weird. From what I remember, as your sidechain trigger you have the choice of channel L, channel R, the input put through a filter or crossover, or some combination of the above - but in order to sidechain off another signal altogether, you'd have to route it to the left input, route your audio to be compressed to the right channel, and sidechain L->R or something along those lines. Pain in the arse. Then again, that was maybe 4 or 5 years ago, so it might be handled differently in a newer version....
