Commercial Music??

Post by orinoco » Tue May 18, 2010 11:21 pm

Hello,

I was wondering about Reason 4 and using it to make music to sell. I'm pretty sure its alright, what with Caspa and The Widdler and whoever else using it to make music and sell it. But what about the presets? All the drum sounds, the REX files, and the NNXT files? Are they okay to use in songs for commercial use? The NNXT has loads of strings and pianos and whatever else in there, and essentially they are just WAV files. Does anyone have any idea what the legalities for these are? Can I use them in songs that I will be selling to companies or for record labels and CD albums?

I've tried searching online and found nothing. If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,

Richard.

I use Reason quite a lot and its a good programme for making the beats but with synths I tend to use FL studios. As with the comment above, you are advised to contact Propellerheads if you are to sell commercially. But if its just mini projects they do not mind!

If you've bought the software then aren't they royalty free?

okay well they said:

Hello,

Apart from the demo songs and their elements, all the sounds and samples contained in Reason and Record are royalty free and can be used in your own compositions.

The only thing you can't do is use any of the sounds and samples to create your own software.

This is the same, regardless of what version you own.

regards,
Rob

So i guess im okay with doing/selling whatever i want to sell as long as i dont just exploit their sounds and sell them as sample packs individually. There we have it, from Propellerheads themselves. I just posted this in case anyone else wanted to know, like i said i couldnt find any information on the subeject.

Thanks for your help all, as usual Dubstepforums have helped me out alot.
