Arpeggiator in Massive?

Post by selhurstwunderkid » Thu May 20, 2010 11:37 pm

Hello there. I have just got a new computer and a copy of FL Studio. I am now looking at getting a soft synth. After looking on here i gathered that Massive and Albino were the most popular. I rang up Digital Village and they said that Albino has now been discontinued! so it looks like i shall be getting Massive. I am a bit concerened about the lack of an arpeggiator in Massive.
I suppose what i was wondering was, would the arp in FL be ok, or are there any decent free arp pluginns out there?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Massive uses up soooo much memory I would be extremely careful using the
FL studio arpeggiator with it. I dont use massive due to the frequency of crashes
it causes on my machine. I have not used the FL studio arpeggiator function with massive.

I have however used the FL arp with Albino. This usually causes FL to crash, especially when you
work up towards the faster/more complicated arp patterns and also if you have a longer envelope.

If im going to use the FL arp function it is always with the 3x osc.
Like I said, using it with some third party synths tends to cause problems for me.

That being said, I would'nt judge massive based on its lack of an arp function.
I'm pretty sure it's usually used for heavy, distorted bass lines. I don't know why
you'd want to arp one of those... I like my arps to be high end "Candy" noises

I would disregard everything in that ^ post.

Fl studio has a very good arp. It doesn't crash any of my systems. One is an old laptop, and it doesn't crash.

Massive is resource intensive, not on memory though. Massive has never crashed fl for me.

Massive essentially has an arp, by the way.

I've got like 4 or 5 Massive instances open in one my tracks and have no problem there, guess it all depends on how beefy your system is.

Yeah, I haven't really had any problems with Massive and CPU load. My setup is a 2008 Macbook Pro, so not that ghetto but not particularly fast either. Ok, it's certainly slower than other synths because everything runs oversampled at 132kHz (though you can change this with the Quality mode), but not so slow that you can't run loads of instances of it (and you probably won't need a big synth like massive in more than four or five instances per track, if that).

It has got an arpeggiator of sorts, but it's more of a modulator than a sequencer/arpeggiator. If you really need a built-in step sequencer that triggers notes I'd look elsewhere.

Massive only crashes is if it is pirated.

I'd also recommend Circle.

That's bullshit my legit copy of massivecrashes from time to time and especially in the last version when auditioning presets while playing a pattern. But new version fixed that part.

Not according to the official RP site. Maybe DV just run out of stock and their stupid idiot sales representatives were trying to get him to buy something there and then. DV can be a right pain sometimes!

No i bought Albino3 recently; spoke directly to maker. http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=274643

The boxed version is discontinued, but the download is still available and being worked on. an update came out v recently.

I have bougt both - much prefer albino TBH (got massive in komplete pack).

All NI stuff sounds a bit plasticcy and digital imo. Some of the reaktor stuff is awesomeness tho.

Id def look at that - same price as massive/albino, but infinite - something like 1000 synths/modulators/effect/drum-machines/glitch tools. etc prebuilt so you dont even have to go deep unless you want to. but you can also build youre own if youre interested.

It seriously can do everything.

I feel you about that ni sound, I don't know if I would say plasticy, it's something though, but I disagree, I think massive can generate way more of a heavy organic sound than albino can.

I love both of those synths though. I'm just saying, don't give up on massive just yet. Spend some time with it. And at the very least, it is so so easy/fast to work with. When I use a synth without it's modulation system... I'm like, this is so oldschool and retarded. Massive's mod system is the best to date, imo.

Oh, one really nice thing about albino is the control over the envelope shapes, pisses on massive's envelopes, imo.
