A message to n00bs, newbs, and lurkers..

Post by nowaysj » Wed May 19, 2010 2:07 am

Hopefully this is the last of this rash of introspective self conscious paranoid threads.

I've noticed quite a few newbs and lurkers saying that they are scared to post or whatever...

Don't be scared to post. There really haven't been any beheadings around here. People imply that newbs get trashed, but that just isn't the case, that's just rumor. Almost everyone here is really congenial and helpful. If you do some dumb thing like ignore the stickies, yeah you might get flamed, but that is appropriate. But we will not hold it against you. And once you get the lay of the land, you'll be just like everyone else.

DSF production is a super supportive tight knit group, unmatched in my experience out here in the interwebz.

So chill out, use the search (and by the way, if you find a thread that is applicable, or close, don't be afraid to post in there and continue that thread of knowledge), and enjoy.

I will tell you this-- things have gotten better. We get way less feedback threads, and i'm amazed-- the datsik & excision thing worked. who knew? seems we've got a rash of folks trying to figure out why their cracked software isn't working (which is like trying to figure out why your bucket with hole in it is leaking), but otherwise-- lots of really good threads lately.

keep addin' to the goodness pile y'all

I think the issue is not with the first post but rather with the content of the first post.
How many new users have the knowledge when they join the forum?

"In general the newb knows not of what he speaks"

I think if you choose to post about something that you know nothing about and act educated or ask questions that are just obviously asking for a huge golden spoon to be shoved done your oversized gullet.
You`ll get the usual comments.
It`s inescapable.

In conclusion, don`t post rubbish expecting someone to respect your rubbish.
Be respectful, ask valid question after using the search function
If you have to be disrespectful, atleast do it in style.

I think these are just the basic rules for ALL forums.

I remember one of my first posts was basically like "how do I make a lead like chainsaw calligraphy"

A couple people kinda tore into me, and the overwhelming majority of responses was "just don't"
Very discouraging :(
Especially the guy whos avatar looked like it belongs on jersey shore.

To be honest though, I dont see very many of those mean people posting on the forum anymore...

yay DSF!

We're not that scary, only if you act like a retard, then you shall get treated like one.

Don't worry, you'll fit in eventually and the alpaca death squad will find a new target. For the love of god though just don't ask how to make 'ze w088l3s'.

Having just joined DSF, all I have to say is wow to the crew on here. Def one of the most informative and friendly forums I have found.
Like it has been said, general forum etiquette should avoid a lashing and hopefully us newbs can add to the knowledge.

There was a point where I'd only come on here to see people just dick on each other with Alpaca photos.

I never joined in, but I liked to just watch, just see people ask honest questions and just get an Alpaca picture in response.

I just wish I was standing right next to the person as he gets all excited to see a response and just see a big ol' Alpaca. I love them.
