As someone has played Juke/Jit/Ghettotech/Ghettohouse/Detroit Bass since highschool (showing my age here) I am happy that people are getting into these sounds, but do some research - it's not new, and Addison Groove didn't invent it (as good as his 12" is).

Re: so who's writing house?
Yeah fo sure, obviously a lot of dubstep heads have heard Footcrab though so it's a bit of a point of reference. Anyone got any Juke stuff on their soundclouds? I attempted a Juke inspired track at 140bpm, but it was a bit shit and I'm not really sure what the "rules" to Juke are so to speak, so resorted to an over load of bassdrums and cowbells

*SLIGHT OVER REACTION*
Addison is a good place to point them because its just been given a full release here hence the nod
I didnt say it surmised the scene in a crystaline incident
I came across this via the Footwork videos from Baltimore and that is my experience regardless of whether it is yours
I have shitloads of ghetto and booty tech that I was playing at the source in the 90s so spare me the lecture
The JUke stuff seems quite distinct from that to me - and certainly as a phrase in common usage (note use of the word common)its more recent but by all means educate us but please do it without the pedant storm
I would say that both baltimore and addison are relevant links and fair comment
By all means expand but dont make out Im talking arse

No one is lecturing YOU personally, my statement was in general and in my opinion was necessary - everyone is talking about "juke" but very few people seem to know ANY records other than Addison Groove or DJ Nate (who was just signed to Planet Mu).eops wrote:*SLIGHT OVER REACTION*

*sorry it got my back up cos I supported ghetto tech all through the 90s to what was quite a harsh crowd in the UK (they had no idea wtf it was!)
And eventually the punters got it and we had some killer nights when NOBODY else was playing it ... so I like to think I earned my stripes
You actually set me on to some of the juke stuff a while back so I doff my cap to you -
I dont know enough about it the details Ill grant you but I do ok for a guy living 3000 miles away

Please a roll call of labels and artists for us to explore

Sorry about the tizzy fit *TOOMUCHCOFFEE*

Yeah, Bruk = Broken = Brokenbeat.
House and brokenbeat have co-existed peacefully in my DJ sets for the past decade because they are at the same tempos and can create crazy dynamics when played off of each other. It's all about the rhythm engine...
EZ

Re: so who's writing house?
OK, 'Juke' doesn't really seem to be my thing. I'm going to see if I can find some 'Bruk' now, from description is sounds more my tingaling.

Nova's were dope cars back in the 60's and 70's. In the 80's they made a sub compact with the same name and that car was a no go for sure.deadly habit wrote:eops wrote:/Oh dear

The girl's name Nova \n(o)-
va\ is pronounced NOH-vah. It is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "new". Astronomy: a nova is a star that releases a tremendous burst of energy, becoming temporarily extraordinarily bright. Chevrolet used to make a small car called a "Nova". Novia is also Spanish for "girlfriend".
No rhyme or reason for this post just putting off getting into some production here

Re: so who's writing house?
On topic with these regional sounds... to me it's like the epitome of garbage throw away music but it's really fun! You ain't gonna like this but I think some Brostep is the modern equivalent. Even though Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, all these cities that have or have had that kind of music surrounds Pittsburgh we never had anything like that here. Pretty disappointing. I did a gig in Windsor around 2k and at the time the ghettobass stuff was huge up in Detroit. Was blown away by the djing of Dj Shortstop. The tunes sounded so good the way he through it down and so I bought about 10 12's on the way out of town. Shortstop gave me one if his records and I got some Godfather stuff too. Probably the worst produced music I have ever heard but like I say it's fun. When I first heard Richie Augusts stuff I immediately thought of that stuff. It's kind of ironic that the people loving Footcrab probably detest the music Richie makes.
Edit holy crap I didn't see that they are displaying where to get the pirate weak, different link lol
Edit again this version doesn't have the juke part in it!

Thanks for this. Juke was pretty big in the (good) clubs over here like 2 or 3 years ago. DJ Gant-Man, DJ Slugo...deadly habit wrote:http://yearofmixtapes.blogspot.com/2010 ... -juke.html
