How old are you?

Bit by bit i've noticed the crowd at dubstep nights getting younger and younger and a lot of the posters on here seem quite fresh faced. I've got nothing against the young ones coming in and enjoying this stuff but a lot of the time, especially at the bigger raves, they don't always get it right. I'm not exactly old, 24, but there has seemed to have been an influx of 16-19 year olds recently.

Just thought it might be interesting to see how old some of the posters are on here and what everyone's opinions on younger people getting involved.

I'm 17, and I get what you mean man - unfortunately a lot of the people I know who are my age who 'know'

dubstep seem to just go for the filth borgore style over-hyped stuff rather than listen to the more melodic, what I consider better tunes. I've been listening since I was about 14/15, so only for 3 years or so, but I delved back into the tunes that were around in 03 etc, and I dig their sound, and search out more stuff like them. Sadly not a lot of people my age do that, and prefer to listen to the Mt Eden and borgore shit

What really got my back up though is how people would randomly come into school one day and go 'OMG GUYZ I JUST DISCOVERED A BADASS NEW GENRE CALLED DUBSTEP, CHECK OUT THIS MT EDEN GUY HE'S BIG, MMMM COOOKIE MONSTAAA', and I was sitting there with an iPod full of Hatcha, Synkro, DMZ, Coki etc, having known about the genre for a couple of years, and digging the darker, melodic, bass driven sound. Was interesting how when I discovered it no one wanted to know, but suddenly everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. That said there were a few people who got into it the same time I did, and also listen to the darker, non-midrange stuff.

I think there are a lot of scene posers and followers who jumped onto the genre just to look cool will just move on (hopefully soon), and then the people my age who actually know what the genre's about will stay and hopefully continue to move the scene forward

Not meaning to sound like an elitist bastard in this btw, just venting somethings which have annoyed me immensely over the past couple of years...

20 so obviously not fussed about young people comin in. The only issue is the resulting overemphasis on the more aggy wobble dubstep, a style which I think appeals more to younger listeners, I personally like this side of dubstep as well I just don't want it too predominant.

What do you mean by sometimes 'they get it wrong'?

its the exacly the same for me, but ive been listening for little over a year now

just little things which get on my nerves, bumping into someone or spilling their drink and not apologising. sometimes they come and either get too mashed or drunk and make tits of themselves, either jumping about and smashing into others or starting on each other. i dunno. it really depends on what kind of night it is, who's playing etc but i have sometimes found myself getting wound up by a group of people who are clearly on the young side and don't really respect others at the nights

i'm also 20. I've been going to nights for about 2 or 3 years. Except when i was under age sometimes it was more like trying to go to nights.

I get what you mean about people getting it wrong but its just a level of maturity isn't it. You quite often see people who are a bit older starting on each other or smashing into people i just think sometimes its magnified id the people are younger because a lot of people are keen to hate on the youth (not saying you are, just some people are).

I personally remember a few years ago when i started going to proper nights i was always really careful about stuff like that but maybe thats because i was more focussed on the music whereas a lot of young people just go out to get pissed and have a bit of fun?

I'm 18, but been listening to dubstep since I was 16/17. Started off listening to skream, caspa, rusko, benga, burial, boxcutter, vex'd, kode9 etc. Still listening to most of them (not much rusko these days) but have followed the same style (martyn, ikonika, clubroot, joker etc). Kind of sickens me that all the people my age are into borgore, flux pavilion and shit. Bit ignorant on their behalf really. I'm probably one of the few people in my town who actually appreciates 'proper' dubstep so nights out, and the fact that i've been 18 for 8 months now have been scarce.

Im 20 been listening/adddicted to dubstep for about a year now. I understand all the hate for borgore and the "chaotic nonsense" cookie monsta type stuff but i can still dig it. I mean i cant listen to it all night but every now and then its cool. Can skank hard to that at shows! But yeah i agree mt eden is over-rated as hell and he doesnt deserve a fraction of the hype hes got. Im dreading the day dubstep goes completely mainstream. I mean really, rusko doing tracks with brittany spears?? v.v sign of the apocalypse guys...

I've seen this type of statement mentioned here quite a lot (in this thread, alone). Could someone please explain what that means? Or point me to some producers? There seems to be a shift in dubstep and since I've only just started listening to it, I only know all the prominent ones. Basically, what direction is dubstep going? Could someone please clarify

Dubstep is going in all different directions man. Thats why its so popular and why i love it so much, because its so diverse
