Yeah I completely understand were you are coming from. What annoys me even more is when people mix up the terms dub with dubstep - they are indeed uneducated however I guess they just enjoying the certain sound - I don't bother saying anything as I know its just a phase with them, once they get bored they will go and kill a new genre...

I never thought dubstep would reach anyone over the age of 30 (except for the ones that want to rape it and make as much money out of it as possible = major record labels)

God bless your souls!

Started off listening to skream, caspa, rusko, benga, burial, boxcutter, vex'd, kode9 etc. Still listening to most of them (not much rusko these days) but have followed the same style (martyn, ikonika, clubroot, joker etc). Kind of sickens me that all the people my age are into borgore, flux pavilion and shit. Bit ignorant on their behalf really. I'm probably one of the few people in my town who actually appreciates 'proper' dubstep so nights out, and the fact that i've been 18 for 8 months now have been scarce.

In the interests of being diplomatic I wouldn't call it ignorant or 'proper' - just different tastes.
I wouldn't.
That's why I put 'proper'. Everyone knows what it means, just couldn't think of a different word at the time. I knew someone would comment on it when I wrote it though

freakah wrote:I'm 17, and I get what you mean man - unfortunately a lot of the people I know who are my age who 'know' :? dubstep seem to just go for the filth borgore style over-hyped stuff rather than listen to the more melodic, what I consider better tunes. I've been listening since I was about 14/15, so only for 3 years or so, but I delved back into the tunes that were around in 03 etc, and I dig their sound, and search out more stuff like them. Sadly not a lot of people my age do that, and prefer to listen to the Mt Eden and borgore shit :u: .

What really got my back up though is how people would randomly come into school one day and go 'OMG GUYZ I JUST DISCOVERED A BADASS NEW GENRE CALLED DUBSTEP, CHECK OUT THIS MT EDEN GUY HE'S BIG, MMMM COOOKIE MONSTAAA', and I was sitting there with an iPod full of Hatcha, Synkro, DMZ, Coki etc, having known about the genre for a couple of years, and digging the darker, melodic, bass driven sound. Was interesting how when I discovered it no one wanted to know, but suddenly everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. That said there were a few people who got into it the same time I did, and also listen to the darker, non-midrange stuff.

I think there are a lot of scene posers and followers who jumped onto the genre just to look cool will just move on (hopefully soon), and then the people my age who actually know what the genre's about will stay and hopefully continue to move the scene forward :D .

Not meaning to sound like an elitist bastard in this btw, just venting somethings which have annoyed me immensely over the past couple of years...

Peace and love
Too true man, I'm 18 and have been loving this scene since i was 14/15. There are a couple of us at my college who i guess caught on relatively late, round 2006ish but there are to many tits that go up to me saying stupid shit like that. There must be at least 5 guys who i know who thought it would be even cooler to purchase a pair of shitty numarks and start djing  Now because i host nights for a local charity i have to let these kids have like 30 mins and it is just embarrassing, even more for me because these little runts consider djing the difficult art of perfecting the use of the volume faders and don't realise how stupid they look. Does my absolute nut in when they haven't a clue who Mala is and EVEN have the damn cheek to say he is 'boring'...one opinion i heard voiced early this week. Man i could have done some terrible things to that boy.
BOOMsHaNKA!an interception!
.....But that’s always the chance you take.

NEW LITTLE MIX COOKED UP. lovely.

My name is Olly Edgecombe (COTTONMOUTH) and I am a dubstep producer and I have been signed to 2 labels and have a forthcoming EP in July. I live in the sticks out near Cheddar and am finding it hard to promote or play out at clubs because of this. Things have moved so fast for me with two of my tunes being in the top ten most played tunes all year on the whole of soundcloud and tunes being played by Dj's from around the globe. Instead of me rabbiting on about what I have done in the past 6 months I have thrown down a load of links for you to see for yourself. I also have several other projects I am working on which I am holding back to promote out so there is plenty more to come. Would love to have tunes played on your show so hit me up if you are interested. I have tunes I have been holding back too which I can link you up with.
I look forward to hearing from you. Also most of all i hope you like my tunes :>).

PEACE & THANKS!!!

Olly

Why not? I've been into rave since I was 13, now 33... went from Rave to Hardcore to Jungle to DnB to Dubstep... touching everything from Happy Hardcore to Gabba to Detroit Techno along the way. it's the hardcore continuum. Only lightweights drop out!

I do feel like a granddad at the clubs tho :D

imo age has nothing to do with maturity levels, life experiences, or knowledge. i've met 20 year old that act more sensible and mature than 40-50 year old people i've encountered
