don't you really mean "typing a song title into google and searching for youtube links" ?
net digging can hardly be romanticized like that --

Then you are not doing it right.
You might search out a track, find a related track, read of a blog in a comment, read the blog get referred to a whole label you didn't know, check them out, find out the label split, the original guy is releasing himself now under this name, youtube up that track and it is amazing. That is a bonafide spelunk.

yeah but the end difference of that info hunt is either finding where a hard copy is sold and purchasing it or doing the lazy thing and ripping it from a stream or finding where it's being pirated..
in the case of the dude I quoted it seemed like he was doing the latter, say it with as much pizazz as you'd like.. clicking links on the Internet isn't scientific research or an underwater expedition.. yr clicking links

My mate (who did music engineering at uni) told me that when you upload a video to youtube the panning and some other things are removed. I cant remember all the technical names for it and what not but if you take it off youtube there will be no panning......and several other things missing on the mp3. In other words.........dont rip from Youtube.
As you can tell im not exactly down with my technical wordings, but you get the idea.

Indeed, youtube removes so many components of the track it just sounds awful!
A perfect example is listening to Coki - Gangsters on youtube - IT SOUNDS AWFUL!
