First Dubstep tune-Feedback please.

Post by rwafish druid » Tue Feb 20, 2007 6:59 pm

This is 84 bars of an as yet unfinished tune, I would love some feedback from the people who count.

well i dont think i count, but since i never get feedback, i thought i should give some...
i like it a lot, theres a lot about it that is very good. the main thing that got to me was the hi-hats, if the hi-hat were less busy and/or less repetive, i think it would groove a lot better. it makes me not able to focus on the bassline, which i like a lot.

just my two cents though

Yeah the hats are a bit busy, some are gonna get removed/mixed better.

oh well i played various brass instruments when i was in elementary and middle school, played guitar for... 9years now... (did some jazz in school programs) did a little bit of drums and bass back in my highschool band days... got into making electronic music almost 3 years ago... although my interest in genres have changed alot even in those last 3 years

I liked the bass-pulse that the track is based around... I'd like to hear some of the background synth melody more, perhaps bring it up a bit in the mix?

My main criticism is that it doesn't seem to have alot of forward momentum... that sort of "propulsive" quality that gets me immediately moving to the beat. Perhaps that was your intention and it's more for head-nodding? If not - consider making the background synth line louder and more rhythmic (emphasized/accented when it falls on the beats)... that might help.

thanks doug and Von, I'll bear that in mind, I've taken the synth out on a lot of the track now and replaced it with something a bit warmer, but I've kept it in the breakdown I'll have another look.

Cheers for the feedback.
