best ways to make everything sound together?
what are some techniques besides eq im thinking more like effects to get everything to sounds together
Re: best ways to make everything sound together?
I like to use a touch of compression on everything, kinda helps, also REEEEEEEEEEVERRRRBBBB with a pretty short tail, turned way down - gives it a feeling of everything being in the same room!

I like using the same reverb patch on multiple elements of your track, it puts the elements in the same 'space'.
Re: best ways to make everything sound together?
a good arrangement that lets everything have its own place to shine, and buss and mix compression.

such a huge question really you cant just pin it down with one magic technique. its all about picking the right effects for the right purpose. i always try to think about why i am doing something in a mix, and still half the time it doesnt sound right. just takes time and effort and practice really.

Re: best ways to make everything sound together?
busses, good frequency cutting, arrangement and compression.
Also, using the same scale helps

This. Also using a send for your reverb helps. It makes it sound a lot more together than when all the tails are different on everything in the mix! Remember reverb creates a space. And if everythings in a different space the last thing its gonna sound is togetherlegend4ry wrote:busses, good frequency cutting, arrangement and compression.

Re: best ways to make everything sound together?
slight compression on all drums/main parts of your mix using sends, short reverb on the same using sends and making sure you've got space for everything. hi pass your reverb to at least 100Hz on low sounds to avoid mud.
using sends for effects is always a good idea too as it's easy to automate them so your track again blends together better.
it's easy to get a cluttered mix which makes it sound chaotic rather than together. cutting frequencies on problem areas is a good idea. Use a 24db lowpass or hipass filter to limit high or low frequencies on certain sounds especially drum samples (hipass and lopass) and harsh sounding synths (lopass). If you have too many elements cut some out or only use them at certain times.
also pan certain elements especially drum samples.

The best way to make everything sound together is to get the sound selection and the arrangement right. Other than that subtle distortion, compression and reverb on sends.

Am i the only one that uses transient designers or something? -_-
I dont recall using reverb on anything, except vocals maybe. hmph, always used slight delay for tracks instead.

Put dbGlitch on the master
Srsly though, warm compression applied liberally throughout, with extra time taken on the drum buses for a warm loving touch

in the context of making the mix sound together as a whole?Moxxiedubstep wrote:Am i the only one that uses transient designers or something? -_-
typically its employed to shape the dynamics of individual tracks - same with a stereo expander
but if its working for you then go for it
Re: best ways to make everything sound together?
damn, i have reverb on almost all sounds, of course some are very subtle and the others more drenchedjolly wailer wrote:Moxxiedubstep wrote: I dont recall using reverb on anything, except vocals maybe.

for real?but I just love reverb lol
Yea i rarely use it on anything. i feel it just adds more areas to notch out when i eq. but when i use delay its just repeating what ive already eq'd.so its a "echo" that slightly models reverb. try using Image Lines Delay.
