best bet is to buy Kontakt by Native instruments. If youre worried about cost im sure you can find a copy of Kontakt 2 for dirt cheap.

+ 1 for kontakt.

Heres some free piano multi-format samples. They sound lush! (for use with kontakt, EXS24, Reason etc... )

http://sonart.cc/shop/product_info.php? ... cts_id=210

As for strings, the IK Multimedia Philharmonic is the nuts!

Google DSK plugins as they have free brass/string emulation VST's I think. Not sure how good they are tho it's years since I used them.

Also Mda Piano VST - THE BEST FREEWARE PIANO EMULATION!!!!

I use the Sonart Brass pack . Sonart makes really good sample instrument packs.

ty for the comment btw :D le dj.

DSK instruments are CPU guzzlers. I got suckered into downloading the "Thor" and their brass vsti. Ill never use DSK again.
But hey, byall means try them out.

I tried this out.

I then realized I do not know how to play a trumpet or a violin. I found it easier to find some decent samples of people who can.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

i like miroslav philharmonik aswell, although i think some of the samples are too short

i think EWQL Symphonic Orchestras is better then miroslav but its also alot more money (i think), but if you arent worried about the money go for symphonic orchestras, that will cover at least the strings and brass, as for piano, i usually use the inbuilt cubase one, but i could do with some others aswell, i have heard EWQL make a really good piano VST aswell but i dont know what its called

Really, you just need one solid trumpet note and Battery 3. You can make a full on orchestra with Battery 3, as with kontakt. but kontakt is more tedious

I would rather use samples of real trumpet players tbh:)

4Front Piano Module is probably one of the best piano emulation VSTi's I've ever used, Then again I don't use many pianos so I've never really had any reason to go finding every piano VSTi out there. No bells and whistles on this VSTi though. It's just straight authentic piano sound, as a matter of fact there are 0 parameters on the instrument itself

http://www.yohng.com/piano.html

There's also a Bass, Rhode, and E-Piano VSTi done by the same people.

I use samples, middle C in a simpler. Works like a charm. Soundscans from different synths. I use the Korg trinity samples. If you have a friend with a synth, see if they let you grab some samples. Or search online for some soundscans.

If you are using logic, I believe ESX24 has some decent strings. Kontakt would be your best best though. The clip in my sig makes use of a decent amount of strings.

Im just starting to dive into battery 3 myself, I already like it though. Is kontakt much different/worth learning?

in terms of making sample instruments and then saving them as a full instrument, then yea Kontakt is better. It has a midi map for placing the sample clips onto specific notes. But really its personal preference. imo its best to learn both because battery can do things Kontakt cant and vise versa.
