FL , Reason, Cubase??

i've just started 2 make Dubstep with FL 3.5 (i think for about 1 year now)

u can do a lot of things with FL :) da only thingz that i've got are a bunch of samples and my BRAINS :P .....no hardware!!!!

and i refuse 2 use music programz suck like Reason, cuz when I see al those buttonz and stuff :shock:

how many peepz in here that are using FL??

Mainly Ableton Live 5 these days, still use Cubase SX sometimes tho. .. Ableton is wicked in a lot of respects but gets real slow when arranging big projects... and is quite a cpu hog. But it still wins over Cubase and Logic for getting ideas together and general workflow.

I wanna try FL 5, and FL 6 looks sick!!

elemental, I just started messin with Live 5, used to FL, how big is big ? i've read its spos'd to be pretty resonable on cpu but i've not really had time to do more than chuck a few sounds around in it. It's def. a great way to get ideas together, I always used to edit everything from FL together in Logic, but I've since started using Samplitude which is an insane editor.

i think it doesn't matter if you're using FL, Cubase, Logic, Reason ;)

when you've got a creative mind, and maybe a lil bit of inspiration :D
then u can make a lot of nice tunes :P :P

Bit of an old chestnut that statement, although true. There's nowt wrong with FL - it's just an updated version of the traditional step sequencers used before the graphical sequencers of log, cub, cak, etc.

One thing that a lot of (if not most) people overlook is that it's not the software you're using, it's the hardware that can make the difference (the creativity of the individual is a given). If you're using a crap soundcard with poor timing, your tracks will sound worse than if you've got a decent soundcard with an additional word clock sync box - such as an Aardvark aardsync or Apogee Big Ben (for example) with ultra low jitter. The crystal locked timing will put your mixes completely into focus (especially the low end). If you compared the 'with external word clock sync' to 'without' you'd be quite shocked!!

btw when I say timing, I don't mean the timing of the metronome (for the layman :P ) , I mean sample timing - 44100 samples a second (for CD quality) might fluctuate between say 43000 and 45000 samples a second (for example) on a poor quality card, whereas even with a not-so-great card, an external sync box can lock it to 44100 with no fluctuation whatsoever.
