Timbaland is a bollock, and an over-rated bollock at that.

Didn't he invent drum and bass too, and the universe as we know it?!?

Lol yeah, I read an interview years ago where he stated d'n'b was bitin' his style but it was too messy.

You can just feel how Mala got all of his inspiration from this tune!

The sad thing? He's probably not claiming this as a way of consciously bandwagon-jumping: rather, his sycophants told it to him enough times that he believes it.

oh boy. i guess i have to mount a slight defense. obviously timbaland has been crap for at least the past five years. but there are definitely things in his 90's sound that makes at his claim at least understandable (if you're able to empathise with an egomaniac), even if it is false in terms of the history (and he was probably listening to some 2 step ukg like the "other" dubstep pioneers). still:

'98

'97

'99, couldn't find an instrumental:

but now that he's taking credit for the entirety of dubstep, i fear what he'll do to james blake over that cmyk sample

Timbaland was pretty important in the development of UK garage actually

he was also doing 140 bpm, syncopated, half step beats back in the late 90s

he didn't invent it but the guy definately had an influence

don't forget about 'ginuwine - pony' [142 bpm]

that, and 'are you that somebody?' [138 bpm]

better than most everything made nowadays.

As far as beats are concerned timbo has been a massive influence on my production.

To say he started dubstep is a myth, but he's definitely influenced quite a few of the scene's established pioneers.
