Excision and Datsik fight off MC on Stage
Re: Excision and Datsik fight off MC on Stage
biggup excision... i deffo agree with ya words... i've never had the problem, personally, of having an annoying MC rap to my set, but I can definitely imagine such a scenario... 90% of the time I have seen MC's they are a bit overkill, but the potential is definitely there for them to pump the hell out of the crowd. I played a show in January of this year with an amazing MC who really respected the DJ. Every time he came in, it would just be to big me up and pump up the crowd. He would flow/rap during some breakdowns, but would never over power the music. Finally, there was one point in my set where I dropped a tune by The Bassist and he kept telling me to reel the track. I was very reluctant at first, as I come from the Reid Speed-class of DJ's who hates the reel, but with a couple more stabs at convincing me, I just decided to do it since the breakdown was dirty as fuck. Haha, it turned out to be a sick fucking reel and I'm glad I listened to him. Hehe, sometimes you need to work together with the MC, but back to what excision said, the DJ has the final say, so MC's, don't overdo it on having things your way.

if an mc MUST be there, they MUST be good.
If they are shit. They need to step off.

I didn't make it over to the Beach for Datsik's set, but I'd hardly call his time slot shitty (I think 10PM to 11PM?). Word is that the party was sold out at 9PM, and it was a sea of people at all the stages that I saw before it was even dark. Not arguing, just stating what I experienced while there. I was on stage with Mayhem for a little during Noah D's set, which was around 5PM and he had an incredible crowd that was really in to the set. What I would normally think was a bad time slot definitely seemed like a great experience for the kids that were there, and there were a ton.Seda wrote: I know man. Excision and Rusko murdered the beach. I liked Datsik too though. He got a shitty time slot because he replaced Trolley Snatcha's spot.
Anyways, I plan to catch Datsik's set in DC on July 4th, I'm playing a dnb set at the same party.
Re: Excision and Datsik fight off MC on Stage
This starts and ends with the promoter. The promoters job is to control the dj box and stage. Being drunk is no excuse either.
The problem Ive seen over and over in the last few years in the east coast of america, is so called MC's that make the assumption that what works at 170bpm is going to work at 140bpm too. Riding the beat for 200 bars at 140, starts dragging the whole dynamic of the slower pace of the music. In dnb it works because there are relentless build ups, break downs, drops etc.
There are MC's over here that fully understand the culture and vibe, like armanni reign for example ( one of the most versatile mc's in america). Armanni has been on sets with Joe Nice and fit in perfectly, and knew to give the music space.

I've seen far far far too many shitty MCS ruin decent sets, wish there was a fucking mute button for them sometimes...

Always about MC's knowing the tunes.
Sucks shit got outta hand... aggro MC's try to turn into tough guys a lot.

Don't get me wrong we all had a great time. It wasn't really loaded until around midnight though. That was def. the peak of the crowd. Not to mention people were running off to the main stage. I was able to dance in the heart of the crowd. When it got later you could barely move. I was pinned against the barricade. Thats what I meant by shitty time slot. 10 - 11 is pretty early for a show that goes until 6 am.ransom wrote:I didn't make it over to the Beach for Datsik's set, but I'd hardly call his time slot shitty (I think 10PM to 11PM?). Congrats on the big gig. I'll be there for sure. DC is much closer to my place.

What they said ^, although there are always exceptions to every rule. I'd love to hear Eksman or Fatman D over dubstep.

i was there for that one, the tune at the end is a new one from Bare and I, and it was disappointing to hear him shouting over the vocals right before the drop. Ruined it.metaphase wrote:Heres Vid, end of Datsik's set

The good news for any future events in Florida is that stun guns are legal & cheap there.
Problem solved.
