nah he's right, it's in the dictionary...

i'd like it a lot more as a surname if everyone in America could pronounce it and didn't say "Kah-Nell" or "Kneel"

The standard of football has been awful so far in this tournament. The only team who've put in a decent performance have been the Germans.

This, I think it has to be the ball. Even if they have been training with for months or whatever what else could it be? A lot of world class teams and players are looking very average, no one can score outside the area without goal keepers making mistakes. It can't be blamed on the conditions, or tiredness, whatever the reason if the standard doesn't improve this could be the biggest flop in football history.

Seriously, what has been going on with all the "good" teams this world cup

france played complete crap vs uruguay
argentinia kind of showed what they can do but didn't really shine either
england
netherlands only got into the game because of that freakish own goal
and now italy managed to scrape a point without doing anything except for relying on a goalie mistake

italy and netherlands have been known to pick up their game during the tournament but seriously whats going on..?
cameroon and japan have to be the biggest disappointment though.. that game had the quality of an amateur match between two groups of friends.. and to imagine japans couch said they are looking to get to the semis

the only real matches I've properly enjoyed watching was us germans vs australia and i'm not only saying that because of german involvement  and south korea vs greece. Those koreans were on fire :o

really hope this picks up with portugal, brazil, spain and the second round of matches

I'm hoping the second round of games gives the teams a bit more urgency... lots of people are seemimgly content to take a draw, especially with a lot of group favourited playing each other first... Italy, Paraguay, the US, France etc need to step their games up now getting a result is a bit more mandatory!

England to win 2-0 on Friday... Rooney gets the second.

hopefully the best is yet to come... if spain and brazil look like rookies, it's got to be either the ball or the vuvuzela distraction

germans were sinister tho, even without Ballack

ivory coast vs. portugal should be a good battle.

new zealand vs. slovakia reminds me a lot of cameroon vs. japan...little skill and not much action.

Been looking forward to Group G since the start. Unfortunately i'm going to miss the Portugal game today but will record it. Hopefully they'll play better than they did in the Euro and Ronaldo might actually do something this time lol. Can't wait to see Brazil play though, hopefully they would have picked things up since the Confederations Cup. They may have won it but they played absolutely shit.

They definitely seem to be the stronger team at the moment. Lovely shot from Ronaldo early on though.

Yet another piss poor game. Only highlights were Ronaldo's early shot and the last couple of minutes. What is going on? This has to be one of the poorest world cup tournaments ever.

Looking forward to Brazil, Spain and seeing Germany again.

portugal if they draw, they're just as happy imo.

drogba didn't seem comfortable playing, his arm seems to be causing him some trouble. very anti-climatic game.

brazil better kick some korean butt, I should got to bed but the world cup is once every 4 years.

Really beginning to run out of teams to impress us now. Portugal didn't do it for me. For the sake of the tournament here's hoping for brazil 10 korea 0

Lol at how the commentators kept having a go at sven whenever they could

but i think that was a good match, not much in the way of attacking football the whole game way mainly played in the mid field. ivory coast were a really solid team, they were good in all areas maybe if drogba was on earlier he could have made more of some of those opportunities, i think theyll qualify over portugal, best team after germany so far i think

another thing about this world cup is there are hardly any world class players in the big teams. world cup 2006 you had zidane, figo, ronaldhino, totti, beckham, nedved... etc loads more but these guys were all play makers. there arent any great play makers that ive seen so far in this tournament partly why the games have been lacking in good/attacking football. mesut ozil has been the only player ive seen play on that level but that was against the soccerroos so we'll have to see

Ivory Coast looked solid but they didn't make good use of Drogba. No one was feeding him the ball, he was just wandering about aimlessly. They should have kept Gervinho on. I don't know what was up with Kalou, he was almost non-existent on the pitch.

Drogba really should have come on earlier, like Saphyre said.

He clearly wasn't 100%, since he had that great opportunity in front of goal and decided to try to feed it off anyway. Gervinho was having a good match though, he should've stayed on. Altogether a bit disappointing though there was definitely some skill on display.

ITV has announced the sacking of its World Cup pundit Robbie Earle after discovering he had passed scores of tickets to a third party in breach of Fifa rules, which were then said to be used by a Dutch beer company for an ambush marketing effort.
Oh dear.
