Are these good speakers to use? (beginner in a bedroom)

I want to save up and get decent pair of speakers/monitors for my PC.
ive googled for good monitors but all i get as a result is really expencive 150£ each KRK's etc.
Im only 15 and its going to be a major pain in the ass to get this 130 pounds to buy those speakers by selling almost anything i dont of mine thats worth any real value. i would be willing to go up to 150, possibly 200 if its REALLY going to make a difference. no more than that though, as ive said, im only 15 so i earn nothing apart from my 10 pound a week from my paper round.
So could somebody tell me if those speakers will do the trick? if not could any of you advise any good speakers in my price range?
Thanks in advance, Tom W

Check the production bible, there is a section on monitors. From what i've read the KRKs seem like the cheapest speakers which still produce a sound of reasonable quality.

No no no no no.antics wrote:Check the production bible, there is a section on monitors. From what i've read the KRKs seem like the cheapest speakers which still produce a sound of reasonable quality.
you dont get it, there all studio monitors.
i dont have a studio, its just me in a bedroom with a small midi keyboard and a copy of reason 4.
and i just dont want to stay with these logitech speakers because everybody with decent speakers who lsitens to stuff i make says it sounds like cat piss. like sounds just seem much lower pitched on good speakers.
Thanks for mentioning it but i have already checked them out and they are all out of my price range, accept from the benhieger ones, but they are way too big for my room lol.

Re: Are these good speakers to use? (beginner in a bedroom)
get a pair of studio headphones instead if you can't afford decent monitors
either that or save up
either that or save up
Re: Are these good speakers to use? (beginner in a bedroom)
I had those, due to being in a really small room and not needing anything powerful, they'll do you for the time being.

Do you think they are the best of their kind?legend4ry wrote:I had those, due to being in a really small room and not needing anything powerful, they'll do you for the time being.
or do you think they may be other in the same price range that are better??
Im not a headphone guy, i know that technically they might be better but there just not for me.deadly habit wrote:get a pair of studio headphones instead if you can't afford decent monitors

thanks anyway though.
In a year or 2 when i can acctually get a part time job ill definatley go for bigger more badass gear but there is a whole 11 months till ill ever see that happening.
( i really have added up the monies i can get from selling pretty much EVERYTHING that i own but dont want that may be worth something, and it only comes up to 155 pounds, and thats only if i can sell everything for how much i think i can.)
Re: Are these good speakers to use? (beginner in a bedroom)
on your budget this is going to be tricky.
i have never seen them cakwalk speakers before, but i think i would stay clear of them. reading about them i don't think they would produce a true sound with all that magic they got going on.
i don't know if you have a audio interface, but your going to need one and thats a extra £80-£150. if i was you i would also be looking to get a decent set of headphones for the moment. then save up for the krk's, or something on the same lines.
imo you need to get your hustle on. do a extra paper round, sell your xbox (if you got one). at 15 you could look at getting a job in a kitchen, working a few hours after school, or on the weekends. then you should have a decent set of monitors in no time, unless you spend all your money on drink, weed, or girls. decent monitors will be a great investment for you music, get them as soon as you can. don't buy cheap now then want to upgrade again.

I'm still using £5 asda speakers. I have used these for 4 years. I think by now I know the sound properly. I'm sure a lot of forum members will encourage you to know and understand the sound of the speakers you have (or are going to buy) This means testing your tunes on all sound systems you can. Earphons, headphones, hi-fis, car systems anything!

Re: Are these good speakers to use? (beginner in a bedroom)
If I were in your situation with such a limited budget I would probably want to invest in headphones rather than monitors. You get more sound quailty for your money and don't have to rely on an inadequate room colouring your sound. I know you don't feel like it suits you, but it is probably the only way you will get decent sound quality on a budget.
I produce almost entirely on headphones (Beyerdynamic DT880) and I have some extremely good studio monitors and a disposable income - but I also have neighbours.
Something like the AKG K240 may suit you well.
However if you absolutely want monitors you can often get good deals on monitors second hand as well, especially if you don't go with the most popular ones.
Behringer Truth 2030A and Alesis M1 Active Mk 2 are both well regarded and cheap, especially second hand. Also a possibility would be Yamaha HS50M.
I haven't used those monitors you posted so I couldn't say what they sound like but would be loath to use them - they will have poor bass response and the bass enhancer system will colour the sound no end; they are probably not much better than your logitechs.
Whatever you do buy, do a LOT of research and try to test out whatever you buy before you get them (I prefer to pay a bit more to go to a shop and hear what I am getting for music gear).
And yes, you will also need an interface - extra £ - if you are on monitors and not phones.
One final thought - your tunes probably don't sound that good because you don't know what you are doing. You have said you are a beginner, so without any hint of elitism or trying to be negative, you probably don't really know how to put a track together that well. Some better monitors / cans may help hear what is going on but it is probably a knowledge issue more than anything else. You have a complete studio in a box with reason so you can make some great stuff, but take the time to learn it all piece by piece. I would probably start by learning the ins and outs of subtractive synthesis, then how to manipulate drum loops, and go from there.
If you can wait a couple of months and raise your budget, or borrow a bit from your parents, you will have more options. Why not start hoarding all the cash you have and do more research (esp into 2nd hand prices) while you learn your technique a bit.

Re: Are these good speakers to use? (beginner in a bedroom)
I shall then.
i rarely spend the moneh i get unless its on clothing, but since i blew most of my birthday money on some sweet garbsi suppose i should start saving up alot more.
i suppose you're right and i shouldnt spend 130 now only to replace the speakers in a years time.
Im gonna be honest now though, my room is 7ft by 6ft so i really think a pair of KRK's would be a little overkill; im only thinking sizewise though, as i have a small desk (2.5 ft wide, 2ft long. roughly) as a consiquence of having a tiny room. my 23" moniter and my desktop PC take up the top section of my desk completley, with just enough room to fit my LKP25 infront. basically what im trying to say is, unless i put the damn things on the floor there aint no room for a pair of KRK's and possibley a subwoofer to boot (if i find a part time dayjob
) and im pretty sure that monitors have to be in line with your ears with nothing in between them apart from sweet, sweet air.
I'll have a look around on eBay and my local cash converter (they have a silly amount of second hand speakers in there) etc. after ive thoughly reviewed some products online first.
Also, what exactly is an audio interface and will it really be neccesarry to have? if its just basically an external soundcard can i say that i do have a sexy soundcard in my PC motherboard (some superduper gaming soundcard came with the bundle).
Thanks for all the replies so far guys. if you do post anything else after this i wont have checked them untill some time tomorrow as ive got some sleep to be having ( got a test in the morning
)

You are young so you'll soon learn that it's better to spend more once, than to spend twice.

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.

Definitely consider headphones as an option. You get a lot more for your money rather than monitors.
Re: Are these good speakers to use? (beginner in a bedroom)
Once you get used to a set-up you'll work against your limitations anyways...
I ain't paying out 300 quid for a sub to match my monitors just so I can hear 50ish hz... Nor am I spending a couple hundred quid on good headphones.
my mixes sound fine on my £18 headphones and my new monitors (not using ^^^^those anymore)
Just make music, with what you can...People still mix down on hi-fis and do stupidly good mix downs.

i dont want them JUST for producing, i just want ones that will be good for music in general, but will also be decent enough to use to produce aswell.
