Rockness

Post by ResetTheAtari » Sat May 29, 2010 3:22 pm

Not strictly dubstep, but I'm sure there will be a few tunes dropped :)

Loads there that folk on here might like - Pendulum, Grandmaster Flash, Benga, Shy FX, Toddla T, High Contrast, A Skillz, 2 Many DJs, Soulwax, Chase and Status, etc.

Anyone else going? I'm getting in free as Hostage is playing the Annie Mac stage on the saturday. I'm mostly hyped for Blondie on Sunday, grew up on their stuff and never seen em live.

I'm gonna be heading out to this. Free tickets so can't complain. Really looking forward to the Rizla bus. I'll no doubt be there all weekend.
Don't forget Martyn's been added to the lineup!

Apologies if I'm being an idiot but who is Martyn? Someone on here? I will definitely be spending most of my time at the Rizla bit.

I'm going.

Initially was going for Leftfield - since I can probably catch Aphex another time. Seeing Leftfield again however, perhaps not.

I was also glad to see Benga and Martyn on the list - although that Rizla bit is not going to be the greatest setting. I hope they nail it though.

Wish I was playing the festival though, since it's a great atmosphere. Maybe next year...

Sorry never heard his stuff. It's not my kind of bag really, big too mellow. Still appreciate the production so I will make sure and catch him.

He did a good remix of Seven by Fever Ray.

Yeah, that is a good one... nice old ravey dark riff. I hope the Rizla bus works for the sound, could be shite if loads of folk wandering past drinking or whatever.

Can anyone help me find/name the final song in bengas set at rockness? The last one before toddla T took over again (i guess someone pulled out cause i missed most of benga due to him being on early!) Anyway it was an absolute banger, hard to explain what it sounded like, just a massive drop and proper crazy noise coming out the speakers!!!!

Cheers guys!!

p.s amazing festival!

Was Shy FX that couldn't make it I was told, I missed the start too! Sorry no idea on the track though.

Highlights for me were definitely Martyn, Benga and Jackmaster. Heard later on that Annie Mac played some Magnetic Man Exclusives on the friday, gutted I missed that. Mind you, she probably woulda been talking shite over them anyway!

Martyn was huuuge, Chase and Status brought on Tempa T and Aphex Twin was so good I nearly died.

I'm still so pissed I missed Aphex Twin. Went for a sleep and noone was able to wake me up in time.

Aphex Twin was mostly just playing chuggachuggachugga techno, was pretty boring I thought.

When was Martyn actually on? I went to the Rizla at midnight on Saturday and stayed for about an 20 minutes but it was just some guy playing chuggachuggachugga house!

Have to say Rock Ness is about a million times better than T in the Park - no neds, genuinely friendly and everyone was chatty and smiley and seemed to be genuinely there for the music. I saw a good few drunks, but not the amount of absolute paralytics you see at T every year.

Music wise ... well I missed the dubstep cause most was on the Friday evening at the Rizla stage, and I couldn't get time off work so had to go up on the sat morning. heard Benga was great. I did see Blondie, Strokes, The Law, Chase and Status (easily the best all weekend), Grandmaster Flash (who was playing a greatest party hits in the world album unmixed) , Rob Da Bank, Doves, Plan B (out of tune), Leftfield (amazing stage show), Ian Brown (rubbish), 2 Many DJs (mainstream dance for folk who dont like dance), Dub Pistols (who I'd never heard before but were quality, gonna get their albums) and the Bloody Beetroots new band thing (noisy). Oh and Hostage obviously who had a good crowd for 3pm in the Annie Mac tent.

Overall I would go back, but it did fairly piss down from 4am sun to about 4pm so we just stayed in our camp till the rain went off.

Chase and Status were actually really good, not a huge fan but they were awesome. Benga was good too, Toddla T was the host at Rizla on the Friday which was good but Shy FX didnt turn up which was a pity. Saw a bit of Ragga Twins but they had a shite crowd, Martyn played last on Saturday I think. Boyz Noize were surprisingly good as well.

Funniest thing all weekend was accidently ending up in the tent Hadouken were in to shelter from the rain and hearing the tnuc go 'HOW ABOUT SOME OLD SKOOL GARAGEEE SOME GRIMEEE MAAAN OUR NEW ALBUMS CALLED FOR THE MASSES, ITS FOR YOU GUYZ NOT THE JOURNALISTS OR THE REVIEWERS OR THE HIPSTERSS LETS GET OLD SKOOL!!!' then played an early hadouken song, so embarrassing we went back out into the rain.

Unless Martyn plays doosh-doosh house he wasn't on last on the Rizla on sat night! I was quite dissapointed.

I convinced my mates to come to Ragga Twins but after 10 minutes of them repeating 'RAGGA TWINS ABAHHHHHT' they left.

I thought Rob da Bank was very good too - lots of old ragga rave, much better than the ragga twins tbh!

Funniest thing I saw all weekend was as soon as I arrived about 2pm, hardly anyone around, a couple sitting snorting coke in the wide open next to the big wheel. Lassy hoovered a line, looked up, saw two cops looming over her - totally blatant!
