MPD26 or MPD24

Which is better? I have heard a lot of complaints against the 26, but probably just because it is like a smaller 32. I was going to get a 24 because it has all of the necessary features and 8 faders (as opposed to 6) but I can't find it for cheap anywhere beside eBay. And I don't have an eBay account and don't want to bother with one.

So is the 26 worth the $200 or can someone direct me to a good place to get a 24?

OP, I really recommend you get an eBay account, it'll surely come in handy some time later, so you might as well. I got myself a brand new MPD24 off of eBay for $100 a few months back

I have the MPD 26. And unless you are doing some mad live shit. Your not going to miss the extra faders and pots.

Btw the mpc swings and note repeat on this are absolutely amazing to work with. you can jam out a beat in no time. You can set your time devision like 16ths 8ths etc.. or triplets, set an amount of swing. hit record and hold a pad (which is pressure velocity sensitive) and make a nice velocity layered beat.

That and the MMC controls. I will never look back.

I have the 24 and its fine. Also have the LPD8 which I prefer the pads on. The only thing that annoys me is Akai claiming that they use genuine MPC pads in there MPD range. No you frigging don't Akai they feel nothing like the pads from an MPC 2500 which I use to own. You can see there even visually different. MPC pads are thicker and deeper where as MPD pads are more flush to the surface and feel a little thin.

Yeah those things actually sound pretty good, the note repeat and stuff.

Are you sure I won't need the extra knobs and faders? Everything I have read said that really doesn't jive well with Ableton.

The only issue I have with the MPD24 is the availability, and I REALLY don't want to get an eBay. So much hassle.

i have a 32...didn't know they made a 26. only complaint is the pads aren't as great as a real mpc like stated. you really got to hit them hard even with the threshold settings at most sensitive. you can open it up and layer some electrical tape on the pad sensors or get pad corx to make them more sensitive and responsive. aside from fewer sliders, the 26 also doesn't have the slider banks, which doubles the 8 to 16...good for mixing in your daw. i picked up a brand new one on ebay for just a little over $200. depending on your daw, with the 24, i know the mmc controls may not work. also there may be no built in presets for your daw across the whole mpd series. i know that's the case for FL Studio...it'll work out of the box, but the pads won't be transposed correctly for fpc. you have to manually map the pads/faders in FL, save presets/templates, and also create a custom template on the mpd so you only have to map things once. great piece of a gear for the fraction of an mpc.

see you have abelton...you should just get an apc if you plan on using it to play live.
