Did basically what they said above, played in the performer alot, and added a vocoder insert on the massive channel with about 40% wet, then bussed it to a send and compressed that send along with the other basses on that same send.

I'm also trying for the life of me to get a fat bass sound similar to Nero. Was actually going to start this thread until I used the search function.
Re: Nero style bass Sounds, any tips?
I've been practicing this sound for years although usually my tracks don't necessarily suit its sound so it's not often used... I always end up avoiding clarity to give things human character
Anyway... I've tried various ways to get this sound, including multiple instances of plugs and layering and have found the best way to get this sound is to use one instance of massive and exploit its two filters, one for the midrange and one for the sub. Perfect the sound within massive as far as you can and then compress with a decent sounding compressor externally from massive.
It's all in the mix though, Nero are really clinical over frequency separation, everything will need to be perfect to obtain that sound. Also, I'd say the sub bass is mixed slightly louder than the average similar style tracks, probably using multiband saturation and limiting.
Hope this will help you out!
Also, I'd recommend checking out Depones tutorials on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/DeponeDub and taking note of everything you can because he has a similar sound when it comes to sub bass/mix IMO. If you've got Logic, he's done a template for beatelite which has a similar sound, so you can see exactly how he creates his! http://www.beatelite.com/shopforfiles

Re: Nero style bass Sounds, any tips?
Usually not into this style at all but Nero do their basses extremely well. I used to think they use modified a Reese or something to get those basses. I wish I had Massive cause I'd love to try a Nero style bass just for fun. Couldn't get close with Operator at all.
Re: Nero style bass Sounds, any tips?
Could easily achieve the same in Albino if you have that? Going to have a look at operator now!skwiggo wrote:Usually not into this style at all but Nero do their basses extremely well. Unfortunately I can only use the Ableton inbuilt synths and a few free VST's. Wish I could get one of those synths but I'm broke haha. I may try with Operator again but I think I'm getting sick of it cause I use it for literally everythingwirez wrote:Could easily achieve the same in Albino if you have that? Re: Nero style bass Sounds, any tips?
From what I saw Operator is an FM synth, would probably work just as well if you layered a sine underneath it and high passed the operator as necessary... If not just go for any subtractive synth with 2 filters, if you can't achieve the sound on the synth I'm sure it's nothing a little resampling couldn't handle!skwiggo wrote:Unfortunately I can only use the Ableton inbuilt synths and a few free VST's. Re: Nero style bass Sounds, any tips?
Thanks for the tips mate I may give it another shot. I suppose I prob wasn't trying hard enough really. I totally forgot about resampling too. There's a reason I never make mid range basslines ever hahawirez wrote:From what I saw Operator is an FM synth, would probably work just as well if you layered a sine underneath it and high passed the operator as necessary... Re: Nero style bass Sounds, any tips?
Did you ever make this using operator? Ive been trying but cant get it right and operator is the only synth i currently use. Neros basses are some of the best in dubstep. I just mostly need help on the synth patch the effects can wait till after.skwiggo wrote:Usually not into this style at all but Nero do their basses extremely well. Re: Nero style bass Sounds, any tips?
FYI you can make pretty much any bass sound with operator from my experience
