Without installing the demo, what does Absynth have that a synth like Alchemy doesn't?

Different oscillator modes.
ADSRs
LFOs
MSEGs
Step sequencer/rhythm gate
Built in FX

Let's face it, all synths can be considered to have only three main sections. Oscillators, modulators, and things that effect the sound in some kind of way (volume controls, routing & FX).

What is hard to understand about that?

Perhaps it's the horrid GUI that forces users to hunt across multiple tabs that people rightly find confusing?

if most of your work with synths consists of bass wobbles and analog lead sounds, then absynth probably isn't your favorite....

if you are a sound designer, who likes to have TOTAL control over what sound you are making, in order to make realistic drums and percussive sounds... then absynth is AWESOME

I make all of my sounds from scratch, with the exception of a few vocal samples if used from games or movies... 95% of my rhythmic sounds come from Absynth (although I use FM8 to make metallic timbres for my hihats and cymbals)... I have made entire drum kits (30+ sounds at least in each one) with just Absynth and just a few ableton effects to add warmth (compressors, saturation, eq, etc...)... Another thing is glitch-percussion and pads... with the insane envelope creator you can make almost anything... makes awesome claps, with just one synth

I had my friend use it, who is used to Maelstrom and Subtractor from Reason... and he cowered in fear and asked "can we go back to using massive?? it makes more sense"... but i made him bear through it, for it is an AMAZING synth... you just have to know how to use it... despite what i read somebody else write, this is my go-to synth whenever I need complex sounds (although for bass, leads, and anything analogy I use Massive and Unique)

it's made for extreme programming power and capability, not for quick and easy use

here's a small few of the sounds i've made in absynth... i have A LOT more though

I guess this answers my question of... "how many people actually create all their sounds from scratch???"

by the look of this thread, not very many... for if you are into anything beyond basic sound design at all... then you would absolutely LOVE absynth.... i find myself hitting walls when using other synths and wishing they had the capabilities absynth does

And the presets are pretty damn amazing as it is, its a good enough reason NOT to make your own sounds...

People seem to forget its their own choice to start with the init patch when they make a tune, not an essential step towards writing good music.

This. Absynth is great for pads and airy leads and weird atmospheres. Only started using it recently and I love it.

well its safe to say that i'm going to spend more time with it. For the record, I DO understand sound design, I just found this synth to be very non-user friendly. But then again, I've only loaded it up a few times.

I found the same thing if I'm totally honest, it can be a little scary at first but when you get used to it it's a fantastic tool, one of my favourite vsts of late.
