sound idea i have litttle clue how to implement

Post by shuedet » Tue Jul 06, 2010 12:15 pm

sorry would have posted in the how to make this sound thread but it seemed to be more like picking a sound apart in there, and i have no example of what i want except in my head.
what i want is to have a single hit, for example a violin playing a quaver note, then be able to take the lingering noise from that sound (not the initial hit/attack) and control that through envelopes etc. so kinda like a large reverb that i can further control, i don't know sorry i'm struggling to explain this....
how to achieve?
sample reverb and loop a cycle? or can i do this using just a chain of effects

Hmm, abit confusing but...

Take the sound, put a long tail on it via the use of decay, so you can change the sound it self and not the hit like you said. But the tail has to be quite long to start messing about it. Once you have got the long delay, use whatever effect or processors... ?
A brand new song!

If I understand you correctly, this should get you close:

1. Set up a reverb aux bus (and possibly compress the reverb to extend and smooth its tail)
2. Send the instrument's channel to the bus
3. Record the reverb of the instrument by recording the output of the bus
4. Import recording into sampler and use its envelopes, FX, etc.
5. Mute / turn off reverb
6. Play sample wherever appropriate (e.g just after the dry sound)

resample that shit and cut away the initial hit. then process however you'd like.
