Re: How beneficial is technology?
the energy crisis is a lie
there's no need for any kind of centralized global economy. there's no need for 40 hour work weeks.
we've got fungus and microbes that can eat crude oil. there's no need to even be digging for crude oil. there's no need for bp to exist.
people need to start thinking completely different.
check out soderbergh's new movie about the informant. that price fixing shit is by no means restricted to this guy's field. that shit is omnipresent. price fixing keeps people enslaved. it's pretty blatantly obvious eventually. the endless stream of "expensive" trinkets is a distraction from the truth that there's no need for any kind of capitalist economy AT ALL now. we've technologically outgrown the need.
it's time to move from a deficiency model to an abundance model.

these guys are saying what im thinking.kay wrote:Well, to be fair, it's not technology's fault that people are doing that. It's people's fault. No one's forcing people to go out and buy new tech stuff that's expensive and unaffordable.meer wrote:While technology makes things easier, people are still working their faces off to afford high-tech bullshit novelty crap.
I'm a believer in technology, and a non-believer that humanity will always use technology in a beneficial way. There are just too many stupid people around with deluded notions.
technology cant be bad. how the fuck can a lump of metal/wires/plastic or w/e be bad?
its the choices that ppl make that make it bad.

I think the brain is special, sure, but I think the self (and perhaps in my hippy-side some notion of human collective) is the sacred bit. There's a fair old difference. With enough time to think about it, mankind may decide the self can continue without an archaic organic brain.parson wrote:that was kind of a recital of convential wisdom though. and that conventional wisdom is outdated. we think our brain is so fucking special because we think we are separate and since we think we're separate we destroy everything in sight. until people learn how to co-operate with nature and shed this cartesian model of taking in order to receive, we're never going to get anywhere. as it stands we're nose-diving.
Your beliefs may be true, but they take bigger leaps of faith than mine at the moment. I'm fairly content with my outlook.
