Any multioscilator synth with envelopes is a good synth for pads. Slow attack, slow release.

if you want dark and creepy you wanna think about the notes your playing aswell.

also dissonace is good.

Try detuned sine waves w/ some noise and low cutoff

Most synths make pretty much the same noises. Anything with a lot of features will be good, if you know how to use it.
